Pure nature

An 18 hole course embedded in pure nature. The Fairways 6,7 and 8 along a small fores and the 10 is one of the nicest Par 3 ever ever played. In the morning you start with a little ground fog because of the open fields along side the Fairways 1 - 5. Near by the fine and wide driving range are bunker, greens and rough for practice.
To cut a long story short - my favourite one in NRW.

Solid golf around the castle hotel

Played on March 3rd, 2020. The flat 18-hole course on the edge of the northern Ruhr area can be reached quickly via the highways 2 / 3,31,43,52. It is located in absolute tranquility and nature around the handsome Westerholt Castle, which is now operated as a hotel and a historic small old town center. The course offers everything a golfer can expect. On the one hand it is an ingrown parkland course, but with mostly open tees and often with water hazards. Some tees require a certain basic length. Higher HCs are more likely to recommend the front tees. I personally liked the Backnine better because it was a bit more challenging. This is where tee 10 (PAR 3) stands out, right next to the parking lot, where you have to hit the green about 130 meters across a pond. The state of care was okay at the time of the year. Despite the very wet weather, the summer greens were open and in good condition. The secretariat is only open at certain times of the year. You pay the green fee at the mailbox. I was lucky and met very friendly staff who then gave me a guest card so that I could get into the locker rooms secured with an access card. If you don't find anyone, you won't get in as a guest! Changing rooms and sanitary facilities were obviously newly renovated, there were still some power cables hanging from the ceilings and walls, otherwise everything was great. Most of the members I met greet kindly. The game was very busy on a cold but sunny Tuesday afternoon. Nevertheless, I was able to start playing directly as a single player. Outside of the winter months there are probably start times and guests can only go outside the weekend without member support. The rule green fee is appropriate for unrestricted play. However, the club should think about whether winter discounts, trolling ban, water in some bunkers and very wet terrain, at least a discount for guest players makes sense, so that they come back. You also pay without a hologram, and that doesn't really promote golf, a whopping € 30 surcharge. As a hotel guest you get a discount. All in all a playable facility, even if without the really big highlights.
