Characteristics
The Golfclub Markkleeberg has a compact 9-hole course that is situated directly at the Cospudener Lake, a former open pit. The course is softly wavey and can be played without great efforts. But several narrow fairways demand concentration and a precise game. Note worthy is the "Little Joe Course", an illuminated 6-hole pitching and putting course with bunkers and water hazards.

You can spend the night in the camper van (there's a bakery nearby for fresh breakfast rolls), swim in the nearby lake, and the nice little bistro also offers a few simple meals (there's a very good restaurant at the nearby lake). Showers and toilets are in one room. Small, adequate, and very clean. Very friendly members and staff. The driving range has many small practice areas, unfortunately, the tees are made of mats. No excessive green fees. If we're ever in the area again, a visit is a must.

Played on September 8th, 2024. The flat 9-hole course (PAR 34) is located about 12 km south of Leipzig city center directly on Lake Cospuden. The access to the club's parking lot is secured with a barrier, otherwise the bathers would park there. Hole 5 practically runs through bushes and a path separated directly along the lake. From some of the higher holes, such as holes 7 and 8, you also have a bit more of a view of the lake. The bathers could be clearly heard and a sign tells you not to move your ball onto the public path. The golf course is probably family-run. There is a bistro, which also serves as the reception, where you pay your green fee. This is also where you will find what is probably the only "somewhat rustic" toilet on the course. The best way to book tee times is online via PC-Caddie. As a guest, I was served in a friendly manner, and we even brought my booked tee time forward by an hour with our combined efforts, so I was able to start playing straight away. The space for 9 holes is somewhat limited. Therefore 4x PAR3 and the greens are rather small. From green 2 you walk through a small forest to tee 3. From green 3 you walk a good distance along a cemetery on the edge of fairway 4 to the tee of the 4th. Caution is advised if a flight is coming towards you. Caution is also advised on holes 1 and 9, as the driving range is in between and a lot of balls stray onto the two holes. If you mishit your own ball in the direction of the range, the ball is lost. Also unusual are tee 6, where you tee off via the path to the bistro, and tee 7, where you tee off over the green of the 6th. Overall, the condition of the golf course was fine. Due to the dry weather, some of the fairways were a little dry. The greens were absolutely playable. On hole 1 you have to tee off directly over water, which means more or less a blind shot. Hole 2 has a 90 degree dogleg. Otherwise, you should stay on the fairways, which means playing strategically and it's better to leave the long woods in your pocket. The game was manageable on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The members I met greeted me in a friendly manner. The green fee of €35 for 9 holes from Monday to Sunday is reasonable. In order to promote golf, there is no surcharge for golfers without a hologram. If you are nearby, a round is recommended, but it is certainly not a must.

I've played all the courses in the Leipzig area and I have to say that after Machern, I like the Markkleeberg golf course the most. The greens are very, very slow, which you can not expect otherwise with the green fee prices, but otherwise the place is well maintained. The staff is extremely friendly and on hole 4 you have a wonderful view of the Cospudener See.
Conclusion: I like to play here more often.
