...very old, but good...

...we play on one of the oldest courses in Switzerland, since our first visit in the early 1990s, all team members have put the tees in the ground more than a dozen times, for me it was the first course I played in the played Switzerland.

The British brought this sport down to the valley, the hoteliers were responsible for building several 9-hole courses until this 18-hole course was built.

The completely flat course, with its flat fairways, reflects that time perfectly, as well as the beginnings of our beloved sport.

We were not able to find out who was responsible for the first sketches. What is certain is that (James) Peter Gannon (1874-1940) left his handwriting on the course, he was the club's honorary secretary for many years. He has launched numerous very good courses in North Italy - Villa d'Este, Milano, Varese - all top courses.
He was born in Buenos Aires, ordained in London around 1900 until he turned to worldly things and won a few tournaments as a lefty and built golf courses.
Mario Verdieri redesigned this course in the 1980s, some holes were worked on again in the mid 1990s,

The first golf tournament in Switzerland was also played in this high valley...

If you play here early in the season, you can still feel and see the harsh winter months, it takes a while for the playing surface to get good, the course has been under snow for almost six months. You have to be patient anyway, it is usually May before you can play here.
Once we wanted to play a tournament here in June, had to leave without a round of golf, during the night Mother Holle threw more than 15 cm of snow into the valley.

The altitude promises balls that fly further, but the Maloja wind and the temperatures can cause disappointment. Therefore, proper work is required to bring a good score into the clubhouse, although the holes do not measure 350 meters on average - will be more difficult than it looks.

In good weather it is a pleasure to play a round here - great mountain scenery.

The course has a good layout, the maintenance is good, the vegetation on the playing ground is a bit rustic - as is usual at these altitudes.
Hole 4 is the nicest and best for us, because the two ancient trees are still defiantly in the way and the distance to the green is 318 meters within good conditions.

We usually get a good score here, and that's the case this time too. I played one of my best tournament rounds here - five birdies.

It was once again a great trip that was a lot of fun.
Nice clubhouse, staff as well!

This course is noisy and Engadin Airport is right next door.

All have four stars.

Holiday golf as it should be

Fantastic landscape, even in high summer pleasant temperatures (from noon often with Maloja wind), a golf course, on which it is fun to play, a professional service - what more could you ask for? Maybe a little more variety in the layout, then it would be easy 5 stars. But I always like to come to Samedan!

A place without fault and blame

For some years I play the place in Samedan regularly and come again and again to the same conclusion: An absolute golf pleasure! Unlike Zuoz-Madulain, the course is completely flat and physically easy to master even without a cart. Golferisch but one demands a lot, but the fairways are sometimes quite long and also tight. And some holes require a good deal of tactical skill. In addition to the golferischen aspects Samedan is also a real pleasure landscape. Last but not least: The exercise facilities are exemplary, the kitchen very appealing and the atmosphere among the club members and guests is indeed characterized by a certain sense of tradition, but still very personable.
