Characteristics
The golf course is not exactly easy to play and demands for a partly precise game. The exquisite location at the reeds and the abundance of water with natural areas offers a home for wild ducks, swans, greylag geese, storks, grey herons and great white egrets. It is a wonderful experience to play on this course, which is in line with nature, looks tame, but is difficult to play.

Nice scenery, bad fairways

18 holes with the Leitha mountains in the background, nice scenery for a twilight greenfee.
I suppose this course differs much from one season to the other. I played in early autumn and almost all the water hazards were completely gone (dried up). The fairways were very bad, large pieces of fairway were repaired with new grass roles. The greens had lots of pitchmarks but were quite fast, most greens were flat as a pancake.
All together the lay-out was OK and several holes had very nasty rough. The DR was quite large. The clubhouse looked nice standing on poles as the Neusiedlersee propably rises in the spring.
Worth the twilight greenfee, I suppose this course is best played in late spring or early summer.

We've played Donnerskirchen several times and love the course itself. This time, on May 17th, we were especially looking forward to it, as there was a good breeze and we expected an exciting game, plus it's baby animal season. We love animals on the golf course and are very tolerant of their droppings, but this time the limit of what's acceptable was far exceeded, as even the greens were covered in droppings... With all due respect and the need for animal welfare, a little more care could be done for the players, especially with a €90 green fee. The overall maintenance left much to be desired this time; we're used to much better. This shortcoming costs us the fourth star. The secretariat and the restaurant staff were very friendly.

The three of us played on this pitch at the beginning of May.
We booked the green fee without any prior knowledge and traveled approximately 200 km to play this course. When paying the green fee, the club secretary informed us that there might be some goose droppings here and there – due to the greylag geese and their young – as it is a nature reserve.
There was no mention of it on the homepage, and it wasn't mentioned during the phone call to book the tea time either.
We played Fairway 1 - Green 1 - these were covered in excrement, i.e. not just a "goose sausage" here and there - no, the entire fairway was affected by excrement at intervals of 30 to 40 cm - therefore you couldn't even avoid it and it was hardly any different on the green.
It continued until hole 9, where we finally ended our round.
We expressed our displeasure in the secretariat.
The club secretary was very friendly and helpful - the club management, not so much.
The least that could be done would be to declare these contaminants on the homepage and grant a green fee discount.
What a shame - this is a way to annoy green fee players - the club probably doesn't need to be visited by green fee players.
