Characteristics
The 27-hole course of the GC Gut Apeldör is characterised by heavily wavey greens and is beautifully integrated into the typical sandy heathland and hedgerow landscape between Nordsee and Eider. The wavey holes pose a sportive challenge, especially because of numerous large water hazards that border fairways and guard greens. The 27 holes consist of the red, yellow and green courses and offer a very good overall package.
Different loops are formed from these 3 places and game combinations for lots of variety and new challenges.

Good place, but poor restaurant

Together with a couple of friends from Hamburg, we played the red-green loop. The fairways, bunkers, and greens were in very good condition.
After the round, however, we were very disappointed. We wanted to get something to eat around 3 p.m., but were told the kitchen was closed. There's only one lunch special between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m., with one dish, and then again from 5 p.m. with a menu featuring six dishes, including a large salad for €15 (far too high a price). The reason given was a lack of staff. Our friends from Hamburg had never experienced anything like this before. We then drove to Loher Sand; the restaurant there serves hot meals continuously between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. The menu is very extensive and the food is of very good quality.
A golf course with a hotel and a kitchen like that, you have to ask yourself why they can't find staff.

It's a typical Schleswig-Holstein course, shaped like a curve in the landscape. It's a former 18-hole course, which is quite difficult to play, as the greens are very challenging to putt. And a former public 9-hole course, which is very easy to play. More suitable for beginners. These courses are now offered in various combinations as 9- and 18-hole courses. I really can't imagine that this is what the inventor (Krause) intended.
The condition of the course is adequate, but not impressive. The greens were rather slow. The green fee of €100 is shocking, which bears no relation to the course offered. There are significantly better courses in this price range, especially since any combination of greens is frustrating.

Unfortunately, Apeldör no longer has the Big Apple as a championship course and the separate Big 9. Since this year there is a yellow, a red and a green loop, with the green loop being the old Big 9. Occasionally the old championship course (now yellow/red) is still marked as an 18-hole course, but very often you have to start the 18 holes on the green loop. This means you have to play a less attractive and challenging course, of course with the same high green fee, since everything is now the Big Apple. This is a scam...
