Golfing in a nature reserve on the "Spanish Algarve"

We played on the south pitch on December 5,2025, in mild temperatures and little wind.

Compared to other facilities in the region, we were immediately impressed by the practice facilities: a driving range with acceptable balls and no distance restrictions (drivers can be used). The driving range has a good, continuous artificial turf surface. There's also a good chipping green and a large putting green. Everything is of very high quality. As a result, it was heavily used by pros and their groups.

Despite being the off-season, the course was packed with groups. This unfortunately meant a five-hour round. Many areas were also being worked on/repaired. Although the fairways were already quite short, they were still mowing while play continued. Overall, the course was in okay condition; however, some tee boxes were very bumpy. The greens were fast and true despite numerous unrepaired pitch marks. This is unfortunately not uncommon on heavily used courses. The crowd was international – many Scandinavians, some Brits, and a Chinese foursome ahead of us who clearly had no concept of etiquette. The marshal was around but kept a low profile.

Some holes on the back nine are indeed spectacularly integrated into the marshy nature reserve – no residential developments on the periphery. Overall, however, the layout didn't blow us away. It's certainly a matter of taste; we preferred GC Islantilla (blue + yellow) in this location.

The small but modern clubhouse sits perched above the grounds, offering lovely views from the balcony. The menu features simple yet tasty dishes at fair prices. However, the acoustics are terrible, making it feel more like a cafeteria than a clubhouse.

Those who aren't deterred by a 5-hour round and enjoy golfing in a tranquil, unspoiled natural setting – with the highlights on the back nine – won't be disappointed by this course. Those aiming for a round in 4 hours or less would be better served by other courses in the region.

El Rompido North and South

Played both courses with my wife in mid to late December, 9x South and 8x North in 11 days. (HC 9 and 17) Excellent condition; top fairways and greens!!
The layout at both courses is very good and the back nine at both courses is very tricky and super interesting.
For 200m drives the fairway is often the narrowest... strategy, placement and thinking helps!!
Pro shop very friendly, one or two of the caddy masters were top but also flops. Hotel and food OK. Surroundings/outings; El Rompido downton very small and nice. Huelva, Cartaya, Isla Cristina etc. not worth a visit... top level golf but outings and surroundings poor.
We have played Sherry Golf, condition and layout are poor but the outcome is top notch.

Well-maintained pitches

Both courses are in very good condition and offer a lot of variety. The clubhouse is a bit poor. All in all, a good resort with two good courses. Recommended during the winter months.
