Wonderful, athletically challenging links course

A wonderful round of golf on a links course that is in almost perfect condition. The golf course is beautifully nestled between Western Gale and Kilmarnock in the Prestwick golf region, around 30 minutes west of Glasgow. It has an interesting layout, a modern facility, the hazards are exactly where they should be, but are still fair and easy to play. However, we had atypically little wind and wonderful weather! On some holes, such as #3, you have to play tactically cleverly, often leave the driver in your pocket and place it well. The greens are difficult but fair and (as usual) often slope towards the edge, so clean shots are required. Rental clubs are of the highest quality, and the staff in the pro shop and restaurant are extremely courteous and friendly. For us, it was an all-round wonderful day of golf. If I remember correctly, the course was also the venue for the Women's Scottish Open this year!

Great greens That was now two couple of three times full in the wind played or and incredible pot bunkers

For me, the course was the most beautiful in this region. It is not located at the front by the sea, however, but in the second row, partly behind the Western Gailes course. Large, wide fairways, the entire course is in great condition. Dunes border each hole. You can regularly master double breaks on the greens. The pot bunkers are challenging, especially the one behind the green on hole 11. For women, this is definitely the most beautiful pro shop in Ayrshire.

Unfortunately for one on the left there is little sea view

After being taken over by an investor and the construction of a spacious clubhouse, the facility impresses with its very good condition and huge, interesting greens. It's not for nothing that the course was the venue for the Lady British Open 2023 and the final qualifying for the Open 2024!
The reception and the starter were also extremely nice.
Unfortunately the railway line and Western Gailes Links still lie between Dundonald and the sea.
But that's the only drawback!

Tips left place

The still young left is a design masterpiece by Kyle Phillips, who also built Kingsbarns. Dundonald is demanding, but quite fair to play. The pot bunker facilities are bombastic, the greens huge, heavily undulating and fast as an arrow! For me one of the best places in the area!

Great Place

Played in May 2018, in good condition despite long drought. Better than the time-honored places, since only 10 years ago built and a good irrigation exists. Clubhouse unfortunately only a simple wooden barracks. That's why only 4 stars. Place deserves 5. Staff extremely friendly as always in Scotland.

Interesting place

We played the pitch last week. First of all one is surprised by the "club house". It is felt by a string of containers, into which one has built the necessary rooms. The sanitary area underlines this impression. A Scottish Open unworthy.
The place has the typical pot bunkers as a design feature. Unfortunately was partly very little sand in it. The greens were rather slow but strongly onduliert.
Since the space is relatively new, the paths from the green to the next tee are kept short.
Overall, we were disappointed with the overall impression.

Not all links, but quite good!

(Tangent to all local 4 places) To British Boys 2014 very neat, honest links, without direct contact coast, but with a railway line, where are the track workers for our discount even stayed-it is only in Scotland!
Only the views of industrial plants clouded the picture a little.
But this is not unusual in the Lowlands (see Fig. Prestwick, ...).
Great for sports emphasized Hcp under 28 golfers!
