Quite a good golf course. Quiet, very green, surrounded by forests. Hilly.
Fairly wide fairways.

The Dortmund Golf Club has a gently undulating course that can be easily mastered on foot. The fairways are framed by mature trees and are quite wide, so that mistakes on the tee are forgiving, especially since the rough is also mowed short. The condition is extremely good, the mostly large and undulating greens are well maintained, fast and stay on track. In terms of layout, the course has a lot of straight lanes, some water hazards and bunkers, which can usually be avoided. A pronounced strategic game is therefore usually not necessary, only the precise approach of the greens influences the score. In addition to the always very beautiful surrounding landscape with a view of the Hohensyburg, I remember lane 3, a par 3, which was designed to be visually very challenging, and lane 5 with a slight dogleg and a very nice water hazard.
More hanging fairways come into play on the second 9 holes, so shots must be placed well. Here I particularly liked hole 14 with a slight dogleg and strategically well-placed bunkers, here you can think carefully about the risk you want to take on the tee in order to shorten the line to the green. The reception in the secretariat was very friendly and the service in the restaurant was also very good. The beautiful view from the terrace over three fairways and the Hohensyburg in the distance made for a nice conclusion. Overall, for a relaxing round on a very well-kept course for €60 green fee, absolutely recommendable.

Played on September 16,2020. The slightly hilly (cart not required for normal sporty) 18-hole course is located north of Hagen and south of Dortmund and can be reached quickly via the A45. The complex is framed by forest and high trees and is located in absolute peace and nature a little in a valley as one might not necessarily expect from the name of the club. Sometimes you have beautiful views of some villas and the tower of the Hohensyburg ruins. Despite the ingrown trees, I would not speak of a parkland course, as most of the tees are very open and the fairways are wide. So even higher HC should have a fair chance and fun. From my point of view, the first 9 lanes are a bit more varied and interesting than the back nine. Lane 3 (PAR3) is certainly very interesting and from the elevated tee 4 you have a great view over the facility to the clubhouse. There are a few water hazards (including herons) and above all well-placed bunkers. It is surely only a snapshot, but the condition of the fairways with many bare and uneven spots, an extremely large amount of ground in repair to whole areas that were probably completely dug up by wild boars, was not really good. In addition, the first fairway was not mowed and I was downright shocked by the condition (field), which then got better on the following fairways but cannot be rated as good overall. Much better were the greens, which were very neat and fast. If the members were to improve their pitch marks, this would be perfect. At the moment, tee times are assigned separately for tee 1 and tee 10, which guests can view online but not book. In general, guests without a member can only play on weekdays, even if you can see that there are enough tee times available on the weekend. It is best for guests to book a start time by telephone. Although the members are apparently not so specific about the start times. At least in my game there were no players at the tee at the booked times. So I was able to go on the lap a little earlier and on my own, without waiting. The game on a sunny Wednesday morning was rather subtle, around noon it was a bit more. The members I met greeted friendly. The current green fee of € 60 on weekdays would be appropriate if the condition of the fairways were better. So it is currently a bit too high. The otherwise very friendly lady at the counter gave no indication of the rather semi-optimal condition either when making the reservation or before my game. For golfers with restricted playing rights, a surcharge of € 20 is applied according to the price list. Although I don't have a gold hologram on the ID card, I didn't have to pay the surcharge. I can't say whether this was a coincidence, because I didn't have to show my ID, or a discount due to the current state of the space. The club offers a very affordable sundowner rate from 5:30 p.m. on weekdays and € 40 on weekends. However, this is of no use at the WE if you don't come to the square as a guest. The clubhouse is more functional with an attached restaurant (not tested). The secretariat has just moved to the lower floor, where the sanitary rooms are. Basically, a round in one of the oldest golf clubs in North Rhine-Westphalia can be recommended if the condition of the fairways is better again at some point.

Here I would like to highlight the greens. The greenkeepers are doing a very good job here. I have not regretted the visit to the restaurant.
