Caxangá Golf & Country Club

Av. Caxangá, 5362 - Iputinga, 50800-000 Recife, Brazil

Characteristics

Golf has been played in Pernambuco State since 1909 originally in the plain areas of the upmarket Derby neighbourhood. But it was not until 1928 that the first golf course in the State was constructed, initially called The Pernambuco Golf Club. In 1944, the club was relocated to a new 160 acre area between Caxangá Avenue and Capibaribe River, and then renamed to Caxangá Golf & Country Club.

The only golf course in the northeast region of Brazil north of Bahia, Caxangá is undergoing a complete makeover, which will increase the current 9-hole course to a full 18 hole layout.. The enlargement project is in partnership with the State Government and City Hall. Caxangá’s driving range is floodlit and open until 9 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays. Despite being a private club, access to the golf course is open to visitors.

Recife needs golf for the future

I have not been there to play golf, yet. I am an American living in Recife. We drive by often on our way to the country. I have seldom seen many golfers, on the course from the road going by the country club. With the World Cup and Olympics both coming soon, there will certainly be many tourists visiting the area and many of them will want to play golf one or more times. I hope they are planning for this. Recife is a fast growing area with many international businesses and golf is part of business life.
I hope to play there soon and will follow-up with my experience, here.
