Characteristics

Castlebar Golf Club was originally founded in 1910, at the inaugural meeting of 10 Gentlemen in

the Imperial Hotel, Castlebar.

Set amongst mature Chestnut’s, Beech’s and Oaks, Castlebar Golf Club boasts USGA standard sand based, all weather greens to an unrivalled standard. Following continuous development, most significantly the initial 18 holes opened in 1981, and most recently a new course layout designed by Walker Cup Captain, Peter McEvoy, into the present magnificent layout. This has propelled Castlebar into one of the Countries finest Parkland Courses, indeed into Golf Digest top 100 Irish Golf Courses, challenging but fair to all grades of Golfer.

Not overly long by modern standards, 6,500 metres, water, trees, strategically placed hazards, and wonderfully maintained course, make for a very enjoyable test of every players abilities, with an onus on Course Management rather than brute force. Waywardness is penalised, but not terminally, and creative shot making rewarded. Variety is ensured from the dogleg Par 4 7th, par 4’s ranging from the tricky to the monstrous (9th and 17th) and anyone who conquers the Par 3’s will leave Castlebar with a warm glowing feeling after a superior experience.

Our Clubhouse caters for all occasions, from regular fourballs to large groups, in a relaxed, cordial setting with panoramic views of the Course and surrounds. Staff will cater for every culinary and refreshment need, with a warm welcoming feeling being experienced by all.

Castlebar boasts having the course record held by none other than Rory Mc Ilroy, and counts amongst its recent visitors Mr Joe Biden, Vice President of the USA, and his brother Jim who played with the Irish Prime Minister Mr Enda Kenny.

We welcome all visitors to Castlebar Golf Club. Since its redesign and reopening in 2001, the course has become a very popular destination for visitors and societies. In April 2007 the Course entered the Golf Digest Top 100 Courses in Ireland. With a challenging but fair course and modern clubhouse facilities, your visit to Castlebar Golf Club will be a memorable one.
