Built on the sandy soil of Danang Beach, the Greg Norman designed Danang Golf Club Is different from anything anyone’s ever seen in Southeast Asia. Set on 280 hectares of tropical linksland, the Dunes Course at Danang is including firm and fast fairways bleeding into wild seaside vegetation, rugged waste areas, swales and hollows. More so than other areas of Vietnam, the wind can play a major factor on the central coast and tighten up the course considerably.
Certainly Mother Nature had a gigantic hand in the formation of a layout that evokes an experience often found in seaside courses in the British Isles and southeastern Australia. But make no mistake: This is Vietnam. One look at the stunning, par-3 16th hole – back-dropped as it is by traditional, long-tail fishing boats that troll the warm waters of the East Sea – is all it takes.

Nicklaus Course lots of water - joyless greens

The course now functions as the Legend Course BRG. When you arrive, you have to take your reservation number with you and show it at the counter. There is endless paperwork and a rather expensive bill. A deposit of 3 million dong is required for rental clubs. Balls cost 540,000 dong (three) and the range 180,000 dong.
Female caddies accompany you on the course and give you helpful tips. They are the best thing about the course. The greens are in a pretty poor condition, the grass is often missing and there are real holes. That's why there are only three stars - as soon as the reception becomes friendlier, it could be four, and with significantly better greens even five.

The golf courses are firmly in Korean hands, as is all of Da Nang.
All places in the region are booked until the last tee time. If you want to play golf here, you have to reserve several days in advance.
We played the Nicklaus course. A beautiful course in very good condition when we visited. We needed 4 1/2 hours for 18 holes.
Unlike in Thailand, you drive the cart yourself and the caddies stand on the back.
Running the course is not possible.
3,600,000.00 VND for 18 holes on weekdays is steep.
If you want to go to the range, you pay extra!
There are no promotions, not even a Twilight Rate. In view of the Koreans arriving in buses from 6 a.m., they don't have to do that either.
If golf is to be an integral part of the holiday I would gravitate towards another part of Vietnam based on the prices and booking situation.

My wife and I (HCP 15 and 29) played the course on November 22nd. As everywhere in the country, large clubhouses with a very friendly welcome and everything super clean.
I don't know if links' courses are always a bit boring, but that's how I experienced the BRG da Nang. Fairways and greens are well maintained, but the greens are very undulating and not easy to play.
However, our two female caddies were annoying, as they basically didn't speak English and weren't any help in the game either. Anyone who has experienced good caddies can tell the difference. The girls are always trying, but after 4 hours of communicating with hands and feet it gets exhausting.
After you've played five places in Vietnam, that's more the rule and the clubs should invest in language courses and training.
So my rating is 3.5, rounded up.
