Baywood Country Club

Great layout.

This course had a great layout along the bayou. Lots of fun. It was designed by Humble Oil employees. The course eventually fell into the wrong hands and was poorly managed as a snotty “country club”—a poor man’s Champions--discriminatory membership practices and all.

Later the course went public and was so poorly maintained that it was almost unplayable for most golfers. Amazingly, the last time I played it, I was paired with a guy named “Scooter” who shot a 59. I’ll never forget the course or that round. What a sad case of unrealized potential. The layout of some of the holes, like 5 and 11, was unique and wonderful. There is nothing else like them anywhere.
