The course was designed by Juan Manuel Gordillo and opened in 1991 as first golf course in Punta Cana. Fairways are surrounded by a 1st cut of rough from which can really grab your ball. If the ball goes beyond the 1st cut of rough there's only water and very dense vegetation left and finding a ball there is almost impossible much less playing it from there if you should find it.

Challenging round of golf

We played the course on October 17th, 2023.
The name of the course is “THE LAKES Barcelo Golf Course”. Here, the name speaks for itself. A total of 5 tee colors on the course. We paid €180 for 2 players 18 holes with an electric car. The course is quite challenging due to the many hills and bunkers. The sand in the bunkers is sometimes bone hard and difficult to play on. 3 island holes demand precise shots.
The service was ok. Water, soft drinks and were included and offered along the way.
We would highly recommend the place.

Unfortunately, the same applies here as to many places in Punta Cana: avoid bunkers because they are unplayable (i.e. without playing sand) Driving range: discarded balls, which are hardly white anymore.

Played on 08/15/2022. After a nice reception in the pro shop, but no further service. We had to carry our bag ourselves through the whole house to the Caddymaster. Drinks were only available on request. The Range was a disastrous field.
So we went into the place without much expectation and were pleasantly surprised.
The care cannot be compared with the other places in the area, but the place is very nicely laid out and can be played very well.
