Great Experience

Playing the Old and New Course at Atalaya is always a treat.
The famous Old Course is a classic parkland course, with wide fairways and accessible greens. Easy to walk. A challenge for all levels of players.
The New Course is a bit more hilly, buggy is recommendable.
A bit tighter but shorter than the Old Course. Nevertheless a challenge!
Don’t miss out to try the totally renovated driving range area under the new management of former Tour player Peter Gustafsson!

WARNING!!
If you want to play Atalaya Golf Courses be aware that they do not follow the booking rules provided by Golfhæftet. com.
If you tell them when you book that you will use golfhæftet they only have a small number of tee times not available during preferable hours.
If you do not tell them that you will use golfhæftet you will get good tee times but they will charge the cost to your credit card prior to your game. You are then not able to get the discount. And they do not tell you that they charge your credit card!!

Played several times this month with a group of friends and are all very satisfied. The Old course has improved during the last two years tremendously. Played the New Course only once and is also nice but not as good as the Old Course.
Excellent practice areas.
Will come again to play and taste the "duck" at the restaurant.

The old course is a stablished course on the area it is really a very enjoying course in perfect conditions, greens were fantastic and the staff so nice, the new course is not as good as the old but we had a nice day playing there, no houses sourrounding, quiet atmosphere and well mantenance. We hope to play again this year.

Nice setting of the courses, not a typical course with houses around, beautiful nature and very quiet.
Spectacular Old Course and challenging New Course, this one not as easy as we can expect. Just one blind hole but the other 17 very nice.

The reception and the whole environment of the clubhouse is great and we were welcomed very nicely. We played the New Course for €144 including manual trolleys. We had to walk about 10 minutes to the first tee.
After 9 holes you are not at the clubhouse and there was no vending machine. Personally, the place disappointed me despite a good maintenance condition. It was sometimes unfair to play because the balls could not be stopped on the fairways due to the incline. Because it was also very windy, it was hardly possible to play the sometimes small greens in the narrow area and the ball could no longer be found. The price-performance ratio does not suit me.

We played the course in January 2023 - it wasn't among the top picks but there was nothing left where we actually wanted to play.
You get a place that is super short on the scorecard and you think you'll take it apart: that's the biggest mistake.
The course tears you apart if you don't hit the right spots on the fairway with precision. Really interesting holes here, for example the 5 (par 5) with a divided fairway, where it is better to stay on the higher right half.
Unfortunately, some of the yellow holes (such as the 6) were so far forward that it took away some of the thrill of the course. The 6 becomes a 210m PAR 4, if it's plugged in correctly, a tree comes into play and the hole has a totally different character. But you probably think: the better the score, the sooner the green fee payer will come back...
That's why - and because the greens were a little flooded (but then they are probably good in midsummer) - there's a star deduction.
And because the 1 & 18 lead parallel to 2 holes of the Old Course and it gets really tight there.
Definitely put it on the list for the price though.

NEW COURSE

Played on 3/1/2022 (New Course). The 36-hole Atalaya Golf & Country Club is located between Marbella and Estepona. Despite the convenient location between the two motorways AP7 and A7, you don't hear anything about it. My rating refers to the New Course because I've only played this one. It is best to take a cart, as the path to the first tee alone is about 700 meters from the clubhouse. Always follow the signs to the first tee. Incidentally, the cart also helps to cope with one or the other vertical meter on the New Course. You sometimes play alongside the usual resort buildings, but they don't bother you. The first train is still quite harmless and therefore rather boring. You're almost a bit disappointed. But the challenges increase from lane to lane. In the course there are some narrower deductions and extreme slopes again and again, some of which are almost unfair. On lane three, the tee is a bit ugly narrowed by a safety net. Course 4 (PAR 3) compensates for this with a 140 meter tee over a lake. In general, there are a few nice elevated haircuts, some even with sea views. Well placed bunkers and fast and undulating greens are another challenge. Amazing that the target is quite low, which is probably due to some short PAR 4 lanes that are easy to reach with the second shot if you play precisely. Ball losses in dense bushes are the result if you don't stay on the fairways. Higher HC should take the front tees, otherwise frustration quickly arises. The condition of the tees, bunkers and greens was mostly fine. One or the other fairway had a few bare spots. The game operation on a sunny afternoon was lively but not overcrowded. You can book tee times online with a discount, but then you have to pay for them immediately. We paid €67.50 incl. cart per player. In comparison to the Old Course and other courses in the region, it is definitely very cheap. The clubhouse is large and has several floors. The employees in the pro shop and the caddy master were friendly. There are modern toilets on site which makes sense. A special feature is that after 9 holes you are in the middle of the course and not back at the clubhouse. There is also a restaurant with an outdoor terrace behind which the sun sets. The staff is friendly and on the ball, the food is decent and affordable. I can generally recommend the New Course, but it is not an easy straight course.

The design of the New Course is totally different as our Old Championship course, it is a par 71 with undulation fairways, perfect greens and spectacular panoramic views. Some holes have steep buggy paths such as the original land where the course is built on, surely with the fog and with some olive trees (olives on the buggy paths) it can be sometimes slippery. We changed already some paths, build in special anti-slip tiles, used sand and we also will continue with improving these paths in the future.

I played the old course in mid-September. The course is embedded in a fairly densely built-up residential area.
The staff is very friendly, good reception and caddy master.
Since there is no starter, the time discipline is not quite optimal. We didn't see a marshal on the field either, who would have asked the very slow flight in front of us to play a faster game.
The course is well-kept, the fairways are wide and in good condition, no rough, only three or four lanes are water relevant, so there is a risk of losing the ball. Otherwise you can hardly lose a ball, very fair even for higher handicappers.
The greens were moderately fast, unfortunately not on track, partly undulated, but fair flag positions.
The road runs on several lanes directly behind the vegetation, so there is sometimes considerable car noise.
In summary, a decent place, friendly staff, not spectacular, price in my opinion too high in total.

Great old course and good customer support. The roughs play much better than last year (shorter) and fast greens. It's a shame that the New Course has been closed for almost a year.

We played both places and had a lot of fun on both. The Old Course is a classic, lavish parkland course with some very long holes.

We played both courses in the middle of August.
New Course: Tight and hilly with fast greens. If you play the course for the first time, if you are not sure that you hit the green definitely call Fore, as often next door is another green or a tee.
Old Corse: Wide fairways, slow dull greens. Rather mediocre.

This give us problems on our greens and fairways, anyhow the summer months are the months when we do all the hard works to prepare it for the high season in the winter period.
You would have seen some areas that are bare as we use a weed killer to clean the courses.
Therefore, as it is low season the green fee reductions are around the 60% due to these works. This is for all players.
The Two4one playing cards are not entitle to book through our online system as we sell these special starting times to those who pay the full summer green fee.
It´s fully informed in our online-booking that Two4one do not get an extra 50% on the already discounted green fees when booked online.
And booked reservations have release times that cannot just be cancelled when we desire so. That’s in every golf course the same.
So we are sorry for the confusion.

I have rated Atalaya several times and play the place again and again.
The greens are currently in good to very good condition, quite fast and full.
The fairways, however, are usually very barren covered with grass, if any. Several holes are scarred almost AZ and newly interspersed, so you can play directly from the damp (but not wet) ground or an ultra-short grass layer. Especially with the short strokes around the green, this reduces the fun much.

The New Course has undulating fairways, spectacular views on Gibraltar and Morocco however it´s a much shorter tecnical course as the Old Course. And we are improving it every year with many changes and improvements. As on our Old Course, with a new Maintenance company, we are getting to a much higher maintenance and investments levels.
Have also in mind that during the summer time, we are using 100% reclycled water which is not the best water to have the best green color on the courses but we manage it to keep it in very good conditions.

Very nice facility with wide lanes, flat and easy to walk. The greens are fast and predictable. Everything is well maintained here and it was fun to play here. Clubhouse and restaurant with terrace are top. It is stupid to park here by car. Our team arrived with 3 cars. 2 of them were somewhere off the square or the parking lot. Nevertheless, for a relaxing round (without cart here in the area !!) I can recommend the Old Course. We did not play the New.
