No alternative to GC El Gouna

Having loved the El Gouna golf course, we wanted to try the Ancient Sands GC for a change. Our conclusion right off the bat: For us, it doesn't offer a comparable alternative to the El Gouna GC.
The first 12 holes of Ancient Sands are relatively monotonous to play. The fairways are lined with villas currently undergoing extensive construction. Only from the 13th tee onwards does the course become more varied in terms of scenery and playability. The increasing number of water hazards provides the long-awaited change of pace.
The course is in fairly good condition, but the bunkers are relatively hard. It's a decent course to play for a change of pace, but it's not a must-play.

The relatively long course measures 6,263 m from the 2nd men's tee (yellow), is par 73, and plays correspondingly long in relatively strong winds.
The first nine holes are unremarkable, although the 2nd hole stands out as a par 6 (!) measuring 570 meters. The back nine offer more excitement, as several water hazards need to be negotiated.
