Characteristics

Ærø Golf Klub is a distinctive 18-hole seaside golf course located at the northern tip of Ærø island in Denmark. Set in a striking coastal landscape surrounded by water, it offers panoramic views across the Danish South Sea from nearly every part of the course.

The layout is shaped by the natural terrain, creating a links-inspired experience with open fairways, rolling ground, and constant coastal wind that adds both challenge and character. The front nine is especially known for its scenic beauty and wide sea views, while the back nine introduces more variation and strategic shot-making.

Natural features such as undulating ground, water hazards, and wind exposure are integral to the design, giving the course a rugged but enjoyable feel. Despite its natural character, it remains playable for a wide range of skill levels.

A highlight of the experience is the setting around the lighthouse and the feeling of playing golf in close connection with the sea, often with sailboats passing in the background—creating a calm yet memorable atmosphere

Unique ans picturesque

Links golf, amazing front 9, view to Germany, Fyn, and Als/Jutland... probably the cutest and picturesque golf course I have ever played.
On the back 9, there are a few dull holes, but finishing your round on a par 5 towards the lighthouse, sailing boats to the right, hidden/protected green for 40 euros a round? Priceless!!!

Thank you for such a wonderful review! We’re delighted that you enjoyed the front nine and the unique panoramic views—it’s not every day you can take in scenery stretching across to Germany, Fyn, and Jutland during a round.

We appreciate your honest note about the back nine, and we’re glad the finishing hole by the lighthouse left a lasting impression—that’s a special moment for many of our guests.

Combining memorable golf with a distinctive setting is exactly what we aim for, and it’s great to hear that it stood out to you. We hope to welcome you back to Ærø for another round soon

An insider's tip

At the northern tip of Aero Island lies a sensational golf course! At first glance, it looks rather unspectacular, but the fairways are quite challenging: very long and riddled with earth mounds that need to be played over. The bunkers are all hidden and invisible. Demanding, but not too difficult. The course is in good condition. The staff of the club, which is run entirely by volunteers, are very friendly. You can stay overnight there in a campervan at a reasonable price. We were the only guests to spend the night right by the lighthouse. A fantastic experience!

Quite challenging and worth a detour

The course is beautifully integrated into the rather undulating landscape surrounding the lighthouse. It's not a links course, but it almost looks like one – and the view is always sea-view. The condition at the beginning of May was surprisingly good; the beautifully undulating greens were very fast, even though April was far too cold for the vegetation.
The few small sand bunkers (with top sand) are usually uncomfortable, but much more unpleasant are the many other natural obstacles (nasty things), e.g. larger boulders, ditches running across the course and occasionally (blind) water.

We found the 18 holes quite challenging—but it was fun! So, if you find yourself on this island, don't miss this course.
Green fee 400 DKR including rental clubs and trolley.

It’s wonderful to hear that you found the course both challenging and enjoyable, and that the greens impressed so early in the season. Our professional greenkeeping team takes great pride in maintaining high standards, even when the weather is less than ideal.

The natural terrain is a key part of the course’s character, designed to offer a distinctive and memorable playing experience that rewards creativity and strategy.
