Aboyne Golf Club

Golf Road, Formaston Park, Aboyne, AB34 5HP Aboyne, Aberdeenshire, UK

Characteristics

Located in the heart of Royal Deeside, Aboyne Golf Club is the oldest club in the region, founded in 1883. The course presents a diverse challenge, evolving from rolling parkland to rugged heathland, with the tranquil Loch of Aboyne providing a stunning backdrop. Designed with input from Archie Simpson and updated by Martin Hawtree, the layout tests accuracy over power. Golfers can enjoy panoramic views of the Dee Valley and Aboyne Castle, often spotting ospreys, before relaxing in the clubhouse with its welcoming terrace.

Beautiful, well-kept golf club in the Highlands

The place is in really great condition.
We enjoyed the 18 holes to the fullest.
The front nine are in a park-like area and the back nine run along the edge of the Highlands. The fairways are better maintained than most greens in Germany.
The greens hold, but are sometimes undulating to make things a little more difficult.
What we noticed was very positive: If you get stuck on a hole, you wave the next players through, exchange a few friendly words, wish each other a "nice play" and carry on.
Very relaxed and friendly.
The staff are also extremely friendly. There was only gingerbread, scones and drinks, but that was probably due to the time of year. We will play there again if we are in the area again.
