The fact that the golfcourse appears to be 100 years old is emense praise. I have played many of the great british links courses and Budersand is as good as most of them, the first true links course in Germany is an absolute gem, congratulations to Frau Ebert and the team, the course and the wind battered me (and my score) but I still loved it, traditional golf at it's finest. Played on September 16,2023. Germany's most popular golf course (according to GOLF Magazine) is located in the beautiful harbor town in the south of the island of Sylt directly on the sea and at the 5 star hotel of the same name. It is a classic links course with all the elements that a links must have. You should avoid the corresponding pot bunkers if possible. The typical links rough is characteristic. It is very dense in some places and often turns into heather. However, slightly warped balls are usually easy to find. Higher HCs do well to tee off more from the front tees. On lanes 16 to 18, a small stream winds its way through the lanes, which are the only real water hazards. There are elevated tees on holes 1,2 and 13 from where you can get a good view of the course and the North Sea and take some nice photos. Lane 18 then ends with a dogleg directly in front of/behind the hotel. In my opinion, the final deserved a better place. Unfortunately there are only tee boards with the length and par information. A visual tee board would have been good, especially on the 18th. The condition was mostly good, especially the greens were top, fast and true. The fairway on the 1 didn't look quite as good and there were a few brown spots on the other fairways too. You start at a relaxed 12 minute interval. Tee times can be booked online. The game activity was lively from 9 a.m. on a dry, mostly sunny Saturday morning. The clientele is rather elitist. If you play early or late, you will also spontaneously get a start time, at least at this time of year. As is usual on Sylt, the green fee is staggered according to the season. In winter you can get a round for €50, in high season for €120 (sundowners from 4 p.m. for €95). If you want to save something, you can buy the Sylt Golf Hopping Card for €229 outside of the high season and can then play three Sylt golf courses, which also include Budersand, and therefore “only” pay €76 for the round. The green fee is paid at the golf reception above the first tee, where the Strönholt restaurant is also located. The staff at the golf reception are very friendly. There is also a small pro shop there. By the way, the game operations and the golf reception start at 8 a.m. and not at 9 a.m. as it says on the homepage. You can eat something in the restaurant from 12 p.m. The menu is rather limited at lunchtime, but the food is delicious and the service is very friendly. There is no driving range. There are two safety net tees and a putting green at the top of the golf reception. There is a chipping area behind the hotel after the green on the 18th. Yes, it is a real experience to play the links course in Budersand and there are only a few places like it in Germany right by the sea, but the hype is a bit too much for me personally high. In itself ok, but there was nobody there, it was weekdays in October and the weather was cloudy that day, so that the square itself wasn't busy either. In the afternoon there were three of us (except me, none of them played golf) in the hotel restaurant or the bar. There were 2 guests at the bar and we were 3, so a total of 5 people. Behind the bar about 3-4 people as staff. Before we were asked what we would like, the staff agreed among themselves (audibly for us) that reserved signs should now be put up quickly. These were then set up at all the small tables, but we were allowed to sit and even order something. As a result, nobody comes into the restaurant or bar - in other words: the signs are there for free. At the end I ask a waiter where the library is that Elke Heidenreich is supposed to have set up and whether one can see it. I was allowed, he fetched the key and so I had the pleasure of seeing a very nicely furnished room, which, however, is otherwise only reserved for hotel guests, which I can understand given the value of the library. As I walked across the square, I was still thinking about staying in the hotel there next time. But at the end of the day I wasn't so sure if I wasn't better off in my hotel.

The round is pleasant and quiet - no noise from adjacent streets, airports or the like. However, there is no real relaxation - the space is far too challenging for that! In particular, it is important to be wide awake immediately on the first two lanes - exclusion, biotope, barely to be located fairway somewhere in the middle of the dune landscape ahead. After that, it usually gets a little easier, but it remains challenging. The game motif is quite similar on most of the holes - as long as possible and still stay on the fairways!
The greens are quite interesting - moderately undulating and very well maintained - unfortunately not as fast as expected. (The weather had been rather damp for days, however.)
The condition is simply sensational - almost flawless - and the service is excellent too! The pre-ordered cart is available at the hotel car park, labeled with your name. Just get in and drive up to the golf reception. Hotel staff and starters are happy to explain to the uninitiated in a very friendly manner where to go. Just because of the steep path from the parking lot to the golf reception / restaurant and tee 1, the use of a cart is urgently recommended - also as protection against the rain showers that are almost inevitable in this region. Due to the weather, it was offered to initially only pay for 9 holes and, if necessary, to “pay” after 18 holes. Very nice and by no means taken for granted everywhere!
At EUR 75, the green fee is by no means overpriced for what is offered in the off-season - a very laudable exception on the "island of the rich".
Conclusion: Whether this is the BEST golf course in Germany, as is so often rumored, can be confidently discussed for a long time. For me it is at least the best links place I've found in Germany so far - even if you include the now frequent places that adorn themselves with the "link" rating without actually being any (Faldo-Platz Bad Saarow, Winston, Rethmar, Herzogswalde ...).
Smooth four stars - even more is reserved for traditional places such as "Ballybunion" - but there is really not much missing. (In the "Golf Bear Ranking": 8 out of 10 points.)
NB - My personal ranking of the four Sylt places:
Clear leadership for “Budersand” - the other three places are very close together in the evaluation. "GC Sylt" in 2nd place, due to the slightly more pleasant landscape just before the "Marine" course - slightly behind due to the less varied "Morsum" courses).
Recommendation: If you are ever on the island - "take" all four seats. If you happen to be not there - go there because of “Budersand”!

Budersand is a very good golf course. I have played this course in changing weather conditions in total 8 times in recent years. The more I played it, the better I found the place. Like all courses, it is very different in weight depending on the wind direction. When wind blows from the southern direction with 15-20 knots, especially the second nine are very difficult because the wind comes from almost every lane. I think the drive zones are rather difficult to hit, especially in windy conditions this becomes very demanding. The tracks 4 and 14 (the two heavy par 4 of the two half rounds) seem to me a little too difficult, just the 4 would have in my opinion 50 meters longer a better par 5 become. The holes 1,9, 10,12 and 18 already require a very accurate placement of the drive from the tee, so that the blow in the green is also feasible.
