Portsmouth on the English south coast in the county of Hampshire looks back on around 800 years of maritime history. A major naval base since the Middle Ages, the cityscape is today dominated by the 170 m high Spinnaker Tower in the harbor district, offering fascinating views. At the naval museum, visitors learn interesting facts about the turbulent history, while restored historic buildings underscore the charm of the port city.
