Steve Smyers has created a very good, varied, exciting and tricky course that is challenging to play. The routing in a wooded area is one thing, the many really bad bunkers are another. In addition, there are usually very below-average greens that are difficult to play and are also very strongly defended. Water is available from time to time as usual in Flordia.
In summary - the layout still convinces today, is a work of art in itself.
What is not convincing is the course maintenance, definitely not, we are disappointed.
Many tees and bunkers were in a deplorable condition, as were some of the fairways - there was no water and therefore no growth. The greens were very good, but rather slow in speed, and not freshly mowed.
Very nice staff, very accommodating!
You can safely give 5 stars for the layout, the course maintenance deserves a very weak 3 stars. As a mix, 4 stars are still justifiable.
