Characteristics

The Tobago Plantations Golf Club is in the heart of the Tobago Plantations Estate that includes Magdalena Grand Beach & Golf Resort in Tobago. The Par-72, 18 hole course has been built into the landscape of an old coconut plantation. The landscape varies greatly throughout the course with lakes, woodland thickets, beaches, mangroves and wild grass providing each hole with a very distinctive character of true Tobago golf. There are characteristic pot bunkers sunk into the greensides, and a Par 4 that goes out onto the peninsula to enjoy panoramic views of Scarborough, the capital of Tobago, and the adjacent Atlantic Ocean. All the holes have four tee positions. The Tobago Plantations Golf Course is PGA designed to Championship standards. It opened in 2001 and was updated in 2013. The course was designed by Bob Hunt and Marcus Blackburn of PGA Golf Management Ltd. The driving range has 50 Bay Grass tees, pitching, chipping and bunker greens, and a large practice putting green. The clubhouse is situated between the first and tenth tees and offers quality service in its facilities that include The Fairways Bar, a pro shop, changing rooms, and golf bag storage.

Good with limitations

We played the course at the beginning of December 23rd. Since we had reserved on a Sunday morning, the place was well attended by locals and the tee-off time was therefore more of a non-binding guideline. The course is in good condition, especially the fairways. The tee boxes on the back 9 were not in great shape; some of them were not mowed or were only mowed inadequately. The greens are ok, sometimes challenging, but surprisingly very slow. The front nine is very scenic and easier to play than the back nine. Hole 3 in particular with the green 30 meters from the Atlantic is a real highlight. The restrictions relate to the equipment of the carts, no teas, no towels, no water and especially no ice for the cooling box. Nevertheless, we would play the course again at any time.
