Characteristics

Recently redesigned by acclaimed golf course designer Robert Cupp, Jr., The Rookery at Marco blends a resort private course with the native surroundings. Appropriately named The Rookery, meaning bird sanctuary, the golf course is nestled in shallow wetlands that attract many species of birds. At more than 7,100 yards in length, the playing experience includes generous fairways, oversized and receptive greens, the option to play from one of five teeing locations, and immaculate turf condition.

Gloriously colorful

Some of the rooms include Tea, Fairway's and Green's.

Last time we played here over 10 years ago and now we find a course we do not recognize again. In 2014 he was redesigned, which was very successful.

Flat wide, slightly ondulated fairways - lined with neat bunkers - invite you to drive the driver and give full throttle. If the ball on the fairway, far from the bunker and the flanking water to hold, the course plays easily and loosely, space is more than enough available. Two, three holes are quite narrow but not very long, a long iron or small wood from the tea is the better option. The most exciting holes for us were the Par 3.

If the ball lands in one of the numerous wasteaereas, there can be proper work, which are hard and have rather coarse material.

The loose game finds an abrupt end at the Green's, which have it in itself. They look so harmless, are tidy, generally flat, very good to play but very fast and very finely leveled. We had to work a lot. Many Green's have a very good defense - water or well placed bunker.

Great challenging course which is very well maintained with nice staff compliment.

Basic equipment: kick, antiborn or the like. The many lakes and the proximity to the Everglades lied this!

It was great fun to play here, will not take 10 years until we get up here again.
