Characteristics

A"beautiful course with magnificent panorama. Hilly courses and large fast greens with many waces challenge the golfer. The course by David Thomas is deserving of the attribute ""top-class"". Together with Sotogrande and Valderrama it is considered the ne plus ultra at the Costa del Sol."

Pinos/Lagos

Reviewing Los Pinos/Los Lagos.
Me and my friends vacationing in Spain. Second day of the trip we play course Almenara. Small disappointment for me was that they did not have logo ball from collection, not sure why. We did not have much time before game because we were first flight from our group, so we jump right into it. It was lucky day for me, my 1st eagle on 1st hole. I liked the design of the course and pine trees on front nine, surrounding the fairways. Fairways once again were a bit worn out and dry, there are no roughs and deep roughs you are either on fairways, in the trees or OB. Greens are a bit slower than on San Roque, but still very playable and no doubt in better shape than on previous course, therefore my higher valuation. Back nine has more lakes and water hazards, however I liked front nine. We valued the complimentary water in the buggy, would also appreciate shot saver or GPS in the buggy. What is the worst part here is the poor course orientation when changing from Pines to Lagos, you need to ride on sidewalk and its not very well marked and convenient for the first time visitors.
I will not evaluate driving since we did not have time to go there, or to other practice facilities. Resort itself look very nice, but after game refreshment was not so good. Big restaurants closed, opened only small bar with 2 waitresses who were not able to handle our orders well. Price/performance ratio at the moment is just average for the priced charged.

Mediocrity in Sotogrande

We played the course on December 9,2025, in mild temperatures and calm winds.

The clubhouse, pro shop, and academy all seem quite new and modern. Apart from the marshal, who greeted us warmly, the staff were rather aloof, even arrogant. As guests, we didn't feel welcome – unlike at the four courses in Spain we had played in the previous days.

During the off-season, Golfamore offers a very affordable green fee of €75 for two people. However, the golf cart, which we highly recommend, costs an additional €50. The driving range fee (€20 per person) is included in the green fee. 40 balls then cost a hefty €5.

The approximately 1 km long path from the pro shop/clubhouse/tee 1 to the driving range is steeply downhill and then uphill again after warming up. The driving range belongs to the new Academy and currently includes mat tees with Top Tracer screens, a lounge, a chipping/pitching green, and a large putting green. There is also a smaller putting green at the top of tee 1. The Academy staff seemed completely bored and were not helpful when entering the driving range (there is a small, completely unnecessary entrance gate, which can, however, be bypassed via a detour).

Of the original three 9-hole loops, only 18 holes remain (Los Pinos + Los Lagos). The third 9 holes now belong to the Academy and are currently being redesigned.

The course, which was quite hilly and somewhat winding, was in decent condition. Fairways were cut very short, bunkers had sufficient sand, and tee boxes were uneven and heavily worn. The greens were by far the worst we encountered on our trip: dull and some with incomplete fungal growth; overall, however, still acceptable.

There's no birdie book. However, the carts do have GPS. If you don't mind fiddling with the screen, you can certainly check distances to obstacles. We found that too cumbersome and time-consuming. It's definitely a matter of personal preference.

Our cart was extremely annoying with its constant beeping advertising facilities and real estate properties, and almost gave up the ghost on the last few holes - barely reaching the clubhouse at walking pace.

The space is probably used mostly by members. We decided against using the food service because of the atmosphere.

Despite relatively favorable conditions, in our opinion it's not a "must play".
