High class design, low maintanance

I was playing here 3 times in the last 4 days. The design is as GARY PLAYER makes it, I would like THRACCIAN CLIFFS a little bit more, but as a desert golf course this is more spectacular. Hole no. 5 is called PEBBLE BEACH and is just a little bit difficult to play in wind of 30 km/h and tournament conditions.
There is another PAR 3 very interesting... hole no. 15, with a deep ravine and sea behind the green. Both of these holes have drop area zone.
Waiste area is huge, all over the course but playable. Therefore hole no. 13, called DILEMA-DILEMA is not so difficult, even you are not on fairways (is a hole with 2 fairways) .
The distance is around 6.4 km from the yellow tees , C.R. is 72,2 and S.I. is 135.
Tip : if you need a lesson, try to contact GOLF ACADEMY. I recommend mr MAHOMED KAHOUL.

A dream of space, a masterpiece of space maintenance

Was that an experience today? What a great place and in Africa in the desert. Perfect fairways, beautiful but playable rough, a condition that the other two courses in Hurghada do not have to offer and the whole thing is characterized by the incredible views of the sea and mountains. Kudos to the architect and the team for making the course such a great experience for every golfer. Long journeys are the order of the day, a challenge for the athlete who runs and doesn't drive. You can enjoy and absorb the space better as you go. The current construction sites around the square limit the enjoyment somewhat and we can only hope that not everything will be built up after completion and that you can still enjoy the beautiful views. One thing is certain: there will be a lot of concrete around the place, which is a shame. But we will still come back. The game is an experience.

Beautiful golf days in December 2022

We were in Somabay for the first time and play 5x on the course. It wasn't easy because of the wind (up to 50-60 kmh) and the very fast greens. But it was a lot of fun because of the nice staff, nice foreign flight partners; varied layout and beautiful views.
In summary: gladly again 😊👍

Astonishing

On 8.11. and 11.11. played the course twice. Due to the partly great reviews, the anticipation was great. Fairways great, greens fast, cart recommended. 2 par 3s by the sea and a par 4, the green of which is elevated by the sea, are challenging. Other than that, no difficulties, as you can continue playing from the waste areas on both sides of the fairways without any problems. The bunkers are a concrete catastrophe, they haven't seen a greenkeeper for weeks. It was not possible to knock the ball out with sand. The usual real estate development on the fairways has started on the back nine, with the usual noise pollution, the beautifully landscaped fairways will quickly lose their attractiveness due to the development.
The rental clubs are a joke. Maybe for a left-hander they didn't have anything better, old Wilson material, greasy grips, and mixed steel and graphite shafts. When I complained on the first day of the game, they suddenly forgot all understanding of English and gave me the same rubbish the second time.
Left-handers = hands off green fee 85, cart 30, club 25.
Next time I'll try another place

And again and again...

Drive already the 8x to Soma Bay. Are very impressed by this extraordinary golf course. The variety, the game along the sea (4 lanes, or the game in the desert, on very good fairways, is really an experience. There are days when the wind( almost a storm along the sea) can play on Scottish conditions lift, but always interesting.
I'm looking forward to the 9th time.

Dreamlike place between desert and sea

My husband and I played this course on our birthday together. It was very nice that we got a green fee as a gift, thanks again for the friendly service. The price for the green fee, rental clubs (with signs of wear, but perfectly okay!) And cart was quite decent for the great place. The cart was equipped with a cool box with two water bottles and a ball washer. Since the individual holes are sometimes far apart, a cart is recommended. The tracks are very well maintained, the place is in great condition. There wasn't much going on when we were there, so we took our time and also enjoyed a lot of the varied landscape. Some holes lead directly through the desert, some require a precise game on the greens located directly on/above the sea. The only drawback is the constant wind, which not only influences the game, but can also be dangerous for one or the other as a "draft" for the neck etc... Our tips: bring a towel or a windbreaker and definitely still take something to drink with you on the round, the two 0.5 liter bottles of water would not have been enough for the first nine holes (we had an extra liter with us and took two more liters of drinks with us for the "back nine". ...).
Conclusion: A beautiful, very well-kept place, varied tracks, a great experience of nature and a nice service from the team.

What extraordinary

Hello - are in the robinson club for 7 days and really wanted to play the course. Haven't regretted it although the wind doesn't make it easy (wind 18-20 knots) (whci 18/19).
We took our racket and card - running at 40 degrees didn't work after all.
Wilson material also 1 inch longer was available. Card with cool box and water as well as club cleaning on board. On to 18 holes All the beginning was difficult, but we were in at hole 3 - 5/6 madness on the water and also 14/15 - it was worth it.
Place: everything that is green is in top condition. Prices 85 euros green fee - card 30 - club 25 - unfortunately no discount. My 7 broke on the first 9 - club head flew further than the ball - rust - but only a tired smile instead of a small bonus :-( . Had balls and tees with us. There is a shop and everyone was nice - because nothing was going on Everything went without a long wait. No wimd again at any time. Ps if you want to play tennis on grass - there are 4 top grass courts right opposite

Nice, difficult place

I played the course in late February 2020. It was already warm, around 25 degrees. I ran the 18 holes once (... ufff ...) and otherwise drove with a cart (... smile ...) The course is totally embedded in the desert terrain, so there is always sand on the left and right of the fairways (Waste Area) Strike that makes the game difficult. The course was in a very good condition, the greens a bit burned in places, but mostly very quickly, which made putting difficult accordingly.
A few spectacular lanes along the sea and 2 beautiful pairs of 3 with a view of the sea at the stroke. All in all the place is well-kept from my point of view, staff friendly and restaurant very good. Played with Rental Equipment (Wilson), OK.
The game is not that easy (HCP 14) and I was very often off the tracks.
It is worth visiting if you are on vacation in Soma Hotels.

Everything perfect!

Beautiful place, very, very friendly and courteous staff, great condition of the whole area.

We played as a group of 8 (handicap 0 to PR) 5 times in total in January 2020 and luckily we only had 1 really drastic wind. The traveling Marshall asked us that day if we shouldn't cancel after hole 9 and continue our round on a less windy day. The processing of this offer, which was unexpected for us, worked absolutely uncomplicated, like everything else (start earlier, credit for trolleys already paid for on a car, etc.). To be fair, one has to say that the game is very impaired on such windy days and there are more pleasant things than golfing under such conditions. The light wind that is otherwise present on every day is warm and does not disturb play or well-being.

We did not find the construction work disturbing and (despite a precise search) could not see any garbage within sight of the golf course.
A provisional driving range (more than amusement, because it can be seen as a real exercise opportunity) was also provided. The tee mats were quickly placed in the prairie near the freshly sown real driving range, so that you could hit your balls one way into nowhere. In a few weeks, a perfect and lush range should be available again, so that this topic can be considered a lapse.

We found the place fair, but interesting to demanding for all skill levels.

The greens could still be upgraded, but more optically than in terms of play. In view of the climatic conditions in Egypt, the somewhat unsightly appearance of the fast and relatively true-to-green greens is by no means sufficient for a deduction in the evaluation.

Playing golf instead of sightseeing

We (2 pairs, HCP 9,10,15,18) cannot agree to the recent evaluation. The golf course is in very good condition, greens fall off slightly. A playful delight with lots of variability, fantastic views and challenging strokes from tea or onto the green. Yes, Range is currently not to be used, one or the other ruin around it and next to the fairway is now desert. Precise play is always an advantage. In our opinion, the place right by the sea is all worth the money.

Nice place, but unfortunately not recommended at the moment

The course is well maintained and in November 2019 hundreds of palm trees were planted on the sides of many fairways. The driving range is currently being completely revised and will only be available again in March 2020. The existing short course has been completely destroyed and is currently being newly built.

Since the second construction phase right next to the Hotel Cascades is in full swing, the golf game on approx. 4 to 5 courses (especially on the second 9 holes) is severely affected by construction noise (hammer drills and truck traffic) and diesel emissions. Unfortunately, the investors in the emerging houses, which are hard to beat in terms of ugliness, don't take their neighbors into account.

As I said, the place is well maintained, but the external circumstances are sometimes bad.

High contrast

Yep, pretty well maintained, green fairways and mostly friendly service. The green fee with 90 € plus trolley / car is then but also in the premier class - and reached the place in the international comparison not nearly. Temperatures in November pleasant 20+ degrees, but daily wind up to storm strength.

In Europe, the bunkers are located on the fairways, here are the fairways in "bunkers" - the local Wastearea. On most fairways you look behind the wall on a garbage-strewn wilderness, on a handful of lanes you can see the sea but everywhere new villas and garages are raised between the fairways. Dust, noise and construction vehicles next to the fairways. That's not my understanding of high class golf. In its price range, this place was a disappointment.

And was more than positively surprised!
The whole area is in a very good condition. The fairways, greens, bunkers and all other playable surfaces are really entertaining and maintained.
Only the ways could be repaired in some places again. Otherwise, clearly 5 stars! Really great!

Top golf course on the Red Sea

We were at the end of February 2019 in Makadi Bay and have the direct comparison between the two places Soma Bay and Makadi.

Soma Bay is one to two classes better, fairways, space design, exercise options.

Who is in the corner, should definitely play the place, if possible, if it does not wind so strong. We (Hcp 10 and 20) have played from blue, it was quite a challenge (gell Willi).

And the price is absolutely justified and who who gives which discount is probably a free decision of the management.

Beautiful Place

The place is just 15.9.2018 after renovation completely playable again.

Greens and fairways are therefore in very good condition.
Unfortunately, the new pricing policy has not turned out in favor of Cascades hotel guests, because these hardly have a discount, usually only 5 € to foreigners. Gradations within d. There is no week and no sunset golf, as in Makadi Bay and in El Gouna usual.

Current prices until April 2019:

9 hole 50 € f. Hotel guests 65 € f. Foreign
18 hole 85 € f. Hotel guests. 90 € f. Foreign

Packages f. Hotel guests are available but hardly price advantage (about 5 € per round)

Compliment, the quality of the place has been consistently very good for years. The fairways are well maintained and the greens compact. Supposedly, about 40 greenkeepers are busy with the course maintenance. This undoubtedly shows its effect. The staff is helpful and flexible.

A really nice place

In my view, the number two of the three 18 hole courses near Hurghada. The tracks are by no means uninteresting and care of state was totally fine. Many tracks offer challenging water hazards and a number of the holes run along the coast. The views are very nice, but unfortunately, very strong wind has the game very difficult and plenty of Gone with many balls. It has yet fun and there were very few flights go. It was a very relaxed round and if you consider that water is very rare and precious / expensive, then it is also the green fee in order. A cart is not necessary here.

Super design

Gary Player Design is simply good. so also in this space. Each track has its own character and the exchange between desert and sea is skillfully arranged. He is discounts for 5 consecutive days not boring. The maintenance condition of the tees, fairways and semi-rough is fine. The greens are good, but only 4 out of 5 stars. Although every day raked optically superficially beautiful of the green keepers, the bunkers are actually unplayable. Only roughened on the surface a bit, otherwise hard as concrete. The sand wedge does not go. Between 9 and 11 am the place was fully booked, otherwise as good as empty.

Fantastic Golf by the sea and in the desert

Again and again I am fascinated by this place. Many tracks on the seafront, usually with strong winds. Spectacular and my favorite the Par 3 hole no. 5 extending partly into the sea.
The fairways were this time particularly well watered and in good condition. Bald patches are shut off and repaired.
The place is very little busy, no waiting. Good for golfers, bad for tourism and the future. Amazingly, around the golf course will be built eagerly.

Super place in great care status

Super place in terms of design. It's fun the tracks near the sea or to play the tracks through the desert. Unfortunately, it was (longer 2-3 iron / shorter were necessary) at this year's visit very very windy. Place again in excellent maintenance condition. Unfortunately, the bunkers are still maintained incorrectly. Since one watering these every day and then "condensed" one has to play the feeling rather on concrete instead of sand. I hope the management or the Greenkeeper understand my repeated instructions. The greens were in this year somewhat slower than in 2015, but still top.
But to have played this course once an absolute must-round.

Care condition improves; Golf without stress and waiting time

Like every year, in December, we have (HCP 18 and 31) played this course several times. We are always thrilled by the design, especially the tracks near the sea and here hole 5 have it done to us. This time the wind was particularly strong and put any golfer challenges. The condition was significantly improved over the last year and there was no waste. This may be due to the small number of golfers. Pleasant: no waiting and no fuss. The staff is friendly as always. Prices stable and fair. The low construction next to the place (need 10 years to complete?) Did not bother us.
As always: Sun guarantees.
We'll be back in February!

Beautiful golf course in the desert by the sea

There is an 18 hole championship course and a small 9 hole practice course, which I have not played on this holiday.
The front nine are 3 tracks in the back nine 2 oceanfront.
The first 9 like me better, because even a watercourse comes another 3 tracks into play. A par 3 course at sea is called rightly the Pebble Beach of Soma Bay.
You really need to take no Buggy, because the space is very flat, unless the sun protection.
It is mid / end of November and it is very windy in the morning, with the wind in the afternoon abating somewhat. The temperatures are 26 degrees, while it has just only 2 degrees in Germany, very pleasant to play golf.
Unfortunately there are some construction sites around the golf course, as the Soma Bay settlement will be expanded, which is optically not so nice and leads that I forgive only 4 stars. If the sites are times finished, the site has the potential to get 5 stars.

I (HCP 16) have played 4 times here and will definitely come back here.
1.) Greens
The Greens look good, but are very hard and a bit bumpy so the balls do not run quite directional stability (4 stars)

2.) fairways and tee areas and bunkers and fairways tee boxes are in a very good condition.
When discount of blue you have about 130-150 meters rough desert sand overcome the reach fairway. There are 4 different tee boxes, so something for everyone is. Bunkers have very firm almost loamy sand from which it can not be play nice. I think that soft sea sand would be blown away even with this wind. (4 stars)

3.) Personnel and General There is ample and friendly staff. The place is considered by many employees well maintained and kept clean by hand.
The place is generally in very good condition. There is hardly any garbage lying around and everything is very well maintained. From the surrounding hotels like the Breakers, Robinson, Sheraton and Kempinsky there is a free shuttle service to the you have to wait a little longer than 10 minutes. (5 stars)

4.) Prices The prices are ok.
18 holes: € 75
3 Map 9 holes: € 120 (4 stars)

Emotional Gulf between desert and sea

Once again we have encountered this extraordinary place in perfect condition. Flowering plants and many species of birds like hoopoe, sparrow hawks, wagtails and a bald eagle, even a young stork we have observed; least a desert fox. This makes up for some bounce out of the sand, eg bolt hole 12, called "dilemma dilemma" because the fairway is divided into 2 halves and one often ends up in between the sand.
Spectacular two par 3 holes Nos. 5 and no. 13, where one "sea" plays. In strong winds you miscalculated often.
Have proved the trollies with huge wheels, straight in the sand. A buggy is still recommended because of the long distances.
The service is very friendly. Especially nice without costs, the golf bag is securely stored until the next game.

Great Place inthe desert with sea view

Even good players always end up again in the sand (13 hole called double trouble) This time we used a buggy, which because of the long distances was expensive, but also very relaxing.
The par 3 on hole 5 is and remains for us the most spectacular event.

Gary Player course in the desert Arab Spring

Despite the Arab spring, we were probably the coldest winter, which Egypt has long been experienced in January 2012 for a week guests at the hotel "La Résidence des Cascades" in Soma Bay. This week we were able to The Cascades 18-hole golf course (designed by Gary Player) 3x play on.

The course is a mixture of left and Desert Course. Surrounded by sand and fine gravel (though logically hard) fairways and fast, beautifully tended greens. Water hazards are minimal, because the biggest obstacle is the sea water, which is mainly - noticed on the seeing and worth playing track 5 (modeled Pebble Beach) - but not only there. Although the course is almost entirely flat, the steady, strong wind makes it sometimes difficult. One should as far as possible the fairways aptly because beats from the desert (Waste-area) are uncomfortable (especially because the stones in the sand). The toughest opponent on the court is and remains the (often strong) winds.

Unfortunately, the place has torn apart a little, because the tracks are very far from each other, ie, the square is not a unit, but you play it anyway to the resort around.
I personally did not mind, because the paths to the next tees are well signposted.

Driving range and 9-hole course we have not tested.

Probably due to the somewhat tense situation in Cairo far away were fewer guests than normal to visit - both on the golf course and in the adjacent hotel / resorts. Cumulatively, we are only on the first day on the 5th Is probably also the fact that too few flights were summarized. We are therefore at the next two days the same always going in the morning.

The entire staff - both at the resort and on the golf course or in the office or in the clubhouse - was extremely friendly. As so often in life: What goes into the forest, so ... (Eh already know).

Recommended clubhouse restaurant with terrace overlooking the beautiful lanes 18 and 9 (partly also track 17) also.

Nice place - otherwise well

I know the place for some years and the beginning of March 2013 reached a new low. With the maintenance state, it goes on and on downhill. The service is not worth the word. Starting with the lackluster staff in the pro shop, which has more interest in his newspaper as the sale of green fees. At the start there were good Trolleys for an extra Euros. The flights were too often pushed to the full court. Already on the second hole significant delays were due. The Marshalls have not anything against slow playing against beginners yet done jostling flights though you were under fire. The men gave the impression as if you would get mileage, and the game mode is only a moving obstacle. The selection of drinks at the aid stations has become significantly less, but the refrigerators are hardly to be described as such.

More shine than reality

End of February 2013, we have played this acclaimed course. With a taxi, we are driven over from Makadi. First optical impression upon arrival was very good. But the impression was marred fast: In the pro shop, we solved the green fee. The price of 75 euro is fine and quite appropriate. The friendliness left unfortunately, difficult to be desired.
We went to the driving range, which did not like us, only Matt haircuts and no one who is a balls. A ball machine was not available. When someone finally came, it was anything but friendly. It was annoying and made us feel that too.
The place was sold out and a starter looked that tee times were met on time. This was very pleasant and professionally. The individual tracks really very nicely and in perfect condition. The greens are very fast and also very well maintained. The oceanfront holes are naturally beautiful and very difficult to play in the wind... a real challenge. The wind is in this place but the only difficulty, because the place is totally flat and did not unduly obstructed barriers.

The course as a whole, we did not particularly like, because we have not really felt it was a related course, but much more than 18 individual tracks and a lot of sand in between and sometimes travel long distances to the next tee. The tears up the place a bit. Very nice to play every single track in itself, but not for us "beauty" in the true sense, with the exception of the tracks on the sea, which makes you forget the rest briefly.

For us, the place was only limited points, because the rudeness of the staff has taken the difficult joy. As the crowds in the square is so large by the hotels directly applied alone, it is not dependent on other guests and is also shown quite clearly.. it is also said to snobbish. The place is to be played certainly value once, but we prefer El Gouna Madinat Makadi on clear... because the appearance of 3 holes can not just make up the rest.

Ingenious environment

Were always played at the Steigenberger El Gouna and has been focused on the available space, with a few trips to Makadi Bay and also The Cascades.. the last 5 years This time (January 2013) we were a whole week in Soma Bay Hotel The Cascades.. A well-run hotel, a more present hotel manager (Mr. Meyer), both in the morning at breakfast and in the evening at dinner. The golf course a stunner, partly guided along the coast, built the rest in the desert. Very well maintained, the greens lightning speed, something hard, the fairways well präpäriert. The course is long, but fair, with wind (and we had three days), it's getting really hard, that's when his love great difficulty at all to keep the level. Two Par 3 - holes, right on the water are spectacular, and just not very easy to play with the wind.
Just a few words to the hotel. Small but very good food, it's for every taste, live cooking, theme nights, sun terrace for breakfast, no animation, no pushy evening events, large spa facility (not used), large spacious rooms with correspondingly large bathroom with shower and tub...
There were four (hcp 11,14, and 2 x 34) and would always want to go back.,.

A place to fall in love!

We are already in the 10th times in Egypt.
However, we were never in Cascades. This was a big mistake.
We have never (despite 35 degrees) played as a wonderful, well-maintained top place. The green fee is reasonable, the staff very friendly and the clubhouse just great. There are 2 holes just for that reason, one must have played this course. A kl. Tip!
Even if you live in El Gouna, take a taxi!
Point costs about 60 euros - there and back.
