Affordable and simple
3.0 of 5 starsReviewed March 25, 2022
This review is for my second trip to Spain so called Costa del Golf. Once I said I will never go to Spain again, but. This time I came with smaller group (flight). Our 1st course were Santana. Nice entrance, kind of small course with even smaller clubhouse and parking lot. Very pleasant staff to talk, everyone super friendly. I cannot judge much restaurant since we had just coffee and that was nothing special, this is not Italy, have a wine there.
Now to the facilities. My folks were missing driving range which is not available on this course, I do not care but for some people it could be no go.
Course is wide open. From design point of, nothing what I would be crazy about, its not long from white tees its about 6.9km. You will not lose a ball unless you are over the fence or in water. Fairways are wide and roughs were still short and no thick. Quality is OK for the money you will pay. I could not say what would be my signature hole, there were not many what would burned forever in my memory, sorry. The best there is the starter, very funny guy, nice to talk. I say its affordable golf to start your vacation. I gave 3 stars just because of missing driving range and not interesting design.
Great course

Great course. Nice layout, good - challenging greens and good food
Nice Golf, strange rules
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed July 29, 2021
Nice Golf course. Large fairways. Good food in the clubhouse. Strange UK Marshall though that tried to explain to us, when playing from white tees, we needed to register this prior to the round. He also tried to convince us (HCP 9) that we were slowing down the game, although we had to wait at almost every tee.
Very pleasant golf & facilities

Our Society returned for the third time this year and we were slightly disappointed to find they had dressed the course for their high season. However the course still shaped up pretty well and I guess in a couple of weeks it will be up to the usual high standard of our previous visits. Another thing that Santana boasts is great staff and superb cuisine. Not the most traditional of clubhouses but the welcome given both before and after the golf couldn't have been better. Will visit again but next tome at the end of September, great value at €66 inclusive of buggy!

Surprisingly good
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed December 26, 2024
The clubhouse is presented in a charming safari style with an impressive thatched roof that fits perfectly with the atmosphere of the Avocado course. Inside, an authentic tavern invites you to round off the round with delicious tapas and a glass of wine - a pro shop is deliberately missing, as is a driving range, which puts the focus entirely on the game of golf.
The spacious fairways encourage powerful drives, while the designer's sophistication is evident in every sweeping curve, on the gentle hills and, above all, on the challenging greens. Despite a playing time of almost five hours - which was due to slow flights with push trolleys - we never got bored. This is certainly also due to the fact that there were only two of us and we were able to use the time to enjoy the course to the fullest.
Overall, it is a "happy-feel-good" course that gives every golfer the opportunity to play to their handicap while putting the joy of the game first.
The typical bunkers are an absolute must. The sand is of good quality and the fairways are in good condition. However, it is fair to say that the condition of the course cannot quite keep up with the top dogs in the region. Green fees in December from €95 / 18 holes is too much.

No booking possible via phone or email
2.0 of 5 starsReviewed March 13, 2024
We wanted to book a tea time for 2 people. Unfortunately, this was not possible without providing credit card details. We've never experienced that here before.
Because we had problems with phishing emails, we didn't want to provide our details over the phone. Unfortunately the lady was also very unfriendly.
Apparently there are enough visitors on the square and they don't need the money.

A great golf course for low and high HCP.
- Nicely landscaped with lots of avocado trees
- Wide, very well-kept fairways
- fast, difficult greens
- very friendly, professional staff
Restaurant
- definitely worth a visit :-)
-> Tricolore salad or the homemade lasagne - simply delicious!

Actually a nice place, but...
2.0 of 5 starsReviewed April 11, 2023
On the positive side, I have to say that this is one of the few courses on the Costa del Sol that is playable on foot without being boring (Old course Atalaya). Very interesting layout of the tracks and quite exciting game situations in a beautiful parkland landscape. Well maintained greens that were very fast and on track.
The buggies were underground with cracked windows, torn seats and unfortunately no water in the ball washer. The secretariat was rather unfriendly and according to the starter there was water for the round 15 years ago( standard in almost all clubs here!
Some of the flag positions were stupidly stuck in the middle of sloping surfaces and in many bunkers there were more stones than sand. The overall condition was mediocre at best. Too bad, the club could become a lot more, but the money seems to have run out here. Calling a green fee of €120 for this is outrageous. I have added this place to my personal negative list in this region and will not visit again.

Pleasant
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed March 26, 2023
Beautiful, relatively flat golf course, well maintained, rock-hard fairways (super roll), with interesting fairways. Many bunkers populate the fairways, and the greens are mostly well defended with bunkers and ditches.
There are theoretically 5 discounts, with only white, yellow and red being stuck. The white tees were on blue that day (backmost tee), so the 2 par 5, the 4 with 556 m and the 8 with 602 m (!) are extremely long.
I don't quite understand if the scorecard says 5 discounts, that you only put 3 colors in it - but what the heck.
Greens relatively good and not too fast to play bunkers well.
Lanes 4 and 15 are very nice.

What a nice relaxed course. For us (HCP 13-19) the worthy finale of a 5-day golf trip to Marbella Golf & Country Club, Valle Romano Alcaidesa Heathland and Links. Wonderfully wide and fair place, relatively flat but anything but boring. Interesting layout, good condition - really fun. Unconditional game recommendation. Attention: There is no driving range!

Wonderful golf course
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed June 15, 2022
We played the course mid May 2022 and loved it as the atmosphere is so relaxed there. The fairways and tees were well maintained; the greens fast and on track. The holes are interesting and varied. Hole 4, hole 8, hole 10 and hole 15 (all par 5) are particularly beautiful. The restaurant after the round is highly recommended - we'll be back!

Cozy golf
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed November 1, 2021
Santana offers, in contrast to the surrounding rather mountainous and very demanding golf courses, something more relaxing golf. the topography is still quite wavy, the condition is very good, as are the nicely undulating greens. the fairways are quite wide and forgive a bit of dispersion. Nevertheless, the obstacles are sometimes treacherous and the bunkers (there really are a lot of them) are emotionally always exactly where the ball is going. the place is easily feasible on foot.
The 19th hole offers good cuisine.
in the upper area of the 4 * category. GF 81 € (without cart)

A must have
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed August 25, 2019
We played mid-August -
Super fairways and great gusts true to the field. Not a cheap place, but you should play these games when in the area.
Also necessarily - the food in the restaurant!!! Super quality at extremely fair prices - you can only recommend.

Great price / performance
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed June 2, 2019
Friendly welcome, well maintained fairways and greens. The place can be played well without buggy, only small elevations and not steep. The course leaves a lot of room on most railways, sometimes even for a distorted drive. In short, gladly again.

Dark horses
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed November 15, 2018
Actually, I should not write that way because otherwise many many players come. But we really liked it; Price / performance is absolutely correct.
The place is feasible without Cart, because relatively flat. Nevertheless very interesting, varied and well maintained. Starter was probably in the military, but she has taken care of order

Top-ranked
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed May 14, 2018
I (HC 10.4) play this place every year. Last time I played the place twice at the end of April. For me an absolute favorite place. FW were in impeccable condition, the greens very fast and maintained. Space was not crowded, had mostly free fairway and no pressure from behind. In this place, the price-performance ratio is unlike many other places on the Costa del Sol simply outstanding. Again and again!!! Negative to mention is only the small cloakroom of the men for showers. But otherwise there is nothing to complain about! Keep it up!

Discovery of the season
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed November 26, 2017
For me, Santana was the discovery of the season in the Marbella area. But beware: when navigating with GoogleMaps, I would search now. So definitely check the way before.
After arrival stress, the place played very pleasant and relaxed, well-attended, but no crowding and no waiting in the 4-flight. From white he has quite a bit of a tour course, mostly wide fairways, but with well placed and many bunkers, especially around the large and modeled greens. Ditches and water hazards also come into play well, without being unfair.
There are no spectacular views, such as Calanova, as it is more of an open parkland course. A buggy is certainly not necessary. The small but nice club restaurant offered a very good and very cheap menu del Dia - what more could you ask for.

Disaster!
1.0 of 5 starsReviewed February 23, 2017
We have (hcp 7 & 13) end feb played in santana. State catastrophic, unkempt and without any information.
Bunker without sand and not raked, the existing sand was a kind of cat litter. Design and layout completely uninteresting and undemanding.
Widest highway fairways, ridiculous routeing.
Only the small restaurant can enjoy.

Bestplatz
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed December 12, 2016
I know about 15 places to Marbella, this is clearly one of the top 3. Easy undulating terrain on the river, quite without buggy playable unlike the mountain goats places around, very good place state just days after the flood of the century last week. Only the 5 down by the river something had moved in affected, but many workers were busy trying to wipe out the remnants of the flood. This is really a top place, each hole is unique.

After the hills...
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed February 25, 2016
Pleasant to play again after seven hilly courses Santana. Therefore, during a 12-day visit beginning February 2016 this then twice. Very nice place, good condition, varied holes, almost one of my favorites, am a bogey player, unfortunately for this season, but this place is way too expensive. Cart can, need not be, space is long, however.
Reception and Caddymasterin, nice and friendly, the food in the 19 could be better.

Golfing without Buggy
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed March 17, 2015
The square is located in a good way, of the courses in the area off because he is in fact easy playable on foot.
There do not give the usual mountain play back high and subsequent, but simple, and hilly but still interesting golf fun.
Although slightly more expensive than other places in the area, but well worth the price.
Should you book via internet as much cheaper, but also as recommended by the club secretary so.
Also noteworthy is the small but excellent run 19th hole.
The screamer was the question of whether we were satisfied with the good service and if they then also can book on the credit card the tip!
The place is definitely back in our next Costa del Golf program in November

Beautiful place-class restaurant
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed January 8, 2015
We (male HCP11 and 18) have played the course in mid December 2014.
The place has little height differences and is rather unspectacular. The fairways and greens, however, were in good Condition.
The clubhouse restaurant is highly recommended-very good food and friendly economy what more could you want.

I have played this course about 10 sacrament. Is perfectly maintained in all seasons. Ferweys is always cut short. The greens are great and fast. Games HCP 16.5. The pair are long and 5 wide. One of the best places in this Umbebung. The clubhouse is small but cozy. The operation is very freuntlich. Unfortunately, there is no driving range.

Quite hidden... Beautiful place - Clubhouse bad
3.0 of 5 starsReviewed December 14, 2011
We played this place in Feb, 2011. We were recommended a cart when we booked the start time from Germany, but this is complete nonsense, because you could only drive on the roads and therefore you had some up to 50 meters or walk to his ball. Since I carry or drag but rather just my pocket.
The course was in fantastic condition and care left to play for us as well HCP 25-36 players. The clubhouse is small and the locker room a better broom closet, really not very nice. The beer tasted the nice host, however excellent.
There is no way to import a driving range, but only a putting green.
