Affordable and simple

This review is for my second trip to Spain so called Costa del Golf. Once I said I will never go to Spain again, but. This time I came with smaller group (flight). Our 1st course were Santana. Nice entrance, kind of small course with even smaller clubhouse and parking lot. Very pleasant staff to talk, everyone super friendly. I cannot judge much restaurant since we had just coffee and that was nothing special, this is not Italy, have a wine there.
Now to the facilities. My folks were missing driving range which is not available on this course, I do not care but for some people it could be no go.
Course is wide open. From design point of, nothing what I would be crazy about, its not long from white tees its about 6.9km. You will not lose a ball unless you are over the fence or in water. Fairways are wide and roughs were still short and no thick. Quality is OK for the money you will pay. I could not say what would be my signature hole, there were not many what would burned forever in my memory, sorry. The best there is the starter, very funny guy, nice to talk. I say its affordable golf to start your vacation. I gave 3 stars just because of missing driving range and not interesting design.

Nice Golf course. Large fairways. Good food in the clubhouse. Strange UK Marshall though that tried to explain to us, when playing from white tees, we needed to register this prior to the round. He also tried to convince us (HCP 9) that we were slowing down the game, although we had to wait at almost every tee.

Our Society returned for the third time this year and we were slightly disappointed to find they had dressed the course for their high season. However the course still shaped up pretty well and I guess in a couple of weeks it will be up to the usual high standard of our previous visits. Another thing that Santana boasts is great staff and superb cuisine. Not the most traditional of clubhouses but the welcome given both before and after the golf couldn't have been better. Will visit again but next tome at the end of September, great value at €66 inclusive of buggy!

The clubhouse is presented in a charming safari style with an impressive thatched roof that fits perfectly with the atmosphere of the Avocado course. Inside, an authentic tavern invites you to round off the round with delicious tapas and a glass of wine - a pro shop is deliberately missing, as is a driving range, which puts the focus entirely on the game of golf.
The spacious fairways encourage powerful drives, while the designer's sophistication is evident in every sweeping curve, on the gentle hills and, above all, on the challenging greens. Despite a playing time of almost five hours - which was due to slow flights with push trolleys - we never got bored. This is certainly also due to the fact that there were only two of us and we were able to use the time to enjoy the course to the fullest.
Overall, it is a "happy-feel-good" course that gives every golfer the opportunity to play to their handicap while putting the joy of the game first.
The typical bunkers are an absolute must. The sand is of good quality and the fairways are in good condition. However, it is fair to say that the condition of the course cannot quite keep up with the top dogs in the region. Green fees in December from €95 / 18 holes is too much.

On the positive side, I have to say that this is one of the few courses on the Costa del Sol that is playable on foot without being boring (Old course Atalaya). Very interesting layout of the tracks and quite exciting game situations in a beautiful parkland landscape. Well maintained greens that were very fast and on track.
The buggies were underground with cracked windows, torn seats and unfortunately no water in the ball washer. The secretariat was rather unfriendly and according to the starter there was water for the round 15 years ago( standard in almost all clubs here!
Some of the flag positions were stupidly stuck in the middle of sloping surfaces and in many bunkers there were more stones than sand. The overall condition was mediocre at best. Too bad, the club could become a lot more, but the money seems to have run out here. Calling a green fee of €120 for this is outrageous. I have added this place to my personal negative list in this region and will not visit again.

I (HC 10.4) play this place every year. Last time I played the place twice at the end of April. For me an absolute favorite place. FW were in impeccable condition, the greens very fast and maintained. Space was not crowded, had mostly free fairway and no pressure from behind.
