Characteristics

Located on the lands of the Princes of Croÿ near Mons, the Royal Golf Club du Hainaut offers a classic English golf experience in the heart of Belgium. Inaugurated in 1933, the original course was designed by the legendary architect Tom Simpson. The layout is characterized by sandy soil, purple heather, and broom, winding through a peaceful pine forest. Today, the club features 27 holes divided into three distinct loops: "Les Bruyères" and "Le Quesnoy" reflect Simpson's strategic and technical style, while "Les Etangs," designed later by Frédéric Hawtree, adds water hazards and length to the challenge. Thanks to the sandy terrain, the course remains playable year-round. After the round, the clubhouse terrace overlooking the 18th green is the perfect spot to relax.

Great value

Played all three tracks (Bruyeres, Quesnoy, Etangs) in the depth of winter and the course was still in great condition, including summer greens (after about 10.30am anwyay). Was curious about what I would think of the 3x9 concept but each course manages to feel distinct while at the same time comfortably playable as an 18-hole round. Was especially surprised by Les Etangs, which we played last of all and has some lovely aesthetics from the tee box. Staff were super friendly and welcoming and clubhouse facilities excellent - appreciate an open fire in the bar when it's freezing cold outside :-) It's great value, especially in the week, and well worth a visit
