I recently visited Reiters Golf Course and would like to share my experiences—or should I say, my challenges. The course is indeed beautifully situated and has the potential for a relaxing golfing experience. But as is so often the case in life, the devil is in the details. And here, it seems, he has an entire golf course to himself.
The Course – An Adventure for the Brave. Anyone who thought a resort course was for relaxation is seriously mistaken. The fairways are mown so closely that you wonder if the greenkeepers are secretly holding a competition. If your ball falls even an inch into the rough, you can kiss it goodbye. It seems as if the grass there has been in a deep sleep for years. A US Open setup for the average player – a brilliant idea to boost ball sales in the pro shop.
Service – A word that's being redefined here. The term "service" is interpreted at Reiters in a unique, minimalist way. There's no bag drop-off, and the club wash is a self-service area. A starter was present on only one of the four days, lending the whole experience a pleasant touch of anarchy.
Anyone needing a golf buggy—not absolutely necessary due to the hilly terrain but recommended—will be given a key and allowed to search for their vehicle. Sometimes it's loaded, sometimes it's not, and definitely not freshly washed.
We were also lucky enough to receive a buggy that had a familiar hiccup—an amusing surprise, given that there were no other working models... oh, wait, there were, an estimated 13 more available.
Well, then it must have been a special service for us. The buggies themselves are an ode to frugality: no GPS, no club wash, no water, no ice, no divot filler. You can practically feel the 5-star quality radiating from every pore of this vehicle.
Pro Shop and Catering – Exclusive Prices for Exclusive Products. In the Pro Shop, balls can only be purchased by the dozen. Those who only want a sleeve have the choice between overpriced ProV1s or the in-house logo balls. The logic behind this is crystal clear: Either you lose so many balls on the course that a dozen are necessary anyway, or you buy what you don't want.
After all that adventure on the pitch, you might get hungry and thirsty. But beware: a 0.7-liter water bottle costs a whopping €6.50. A real bargain for what you get.
In summary, if you're looking for the thrill of a treasure hunt in the rough, enjoy helping yourself, and appreciate high prices for minimal rewards, Reiters Golf & Country Club is the place for you. For me, it wasn't a "supreme" golf experience, more of a "medium" one with plenty of room for improvement.

Our hard rough is deliberately not mown continuously, as it serves as a feed source for our animals. The pro shop and golf restaurant are operated by external partners, so we have no direct influence on prices and product range – this is, of course, not "cheating."
We also offer golf packages with additional services, such as club cleaning, VIP carts, drinks, balls, range chips, and more. This allows each guest to decide whether they want to enjoy a pure golf experience or a complete package.

Based on positive reviews, I was very excited about this course. Unfortunately, it didn't meet my expectations, especially in terms of condition. Played at the beginning of August 25th.
Clover patches all over the course—so high that balls were impossible to find. Dandelion roots were strewn across the course, and there were numerous hollows and holes. Greens littered with spots and impacts.
The edges of many greens are often framed by large patches of earth under which the perforated drainage grids were visible.
The "brake grass" spoiled any joy of playing for me.
The highlight, however, was the water in the flag sockets, which sometimes reached up to the brim, and that's exactly where you had to reach in to literally "fish out" your ball.
And for that, they'll happily accept the full Sunday green fee.
