Beautiful, well thought and difficult layout of the course! Great conditions with fast and true greens! Only beginners would complain about the planes flying over the course.

Many big tournaments have been played here - more than on any other course in Ireland - many big names have demonstrated their skills here, played for fame and honor and given their verdict on this course. It is considered one of the fairest links courses in the world - the drive landing zones are usually very wide - and has been named Ireland's best course several times by Golf Digest. But the Grees are very, very heavy... they're easily enough to spoil the score...

The course on the peninsula in front of Dublin is the pride of the entire city and its founders William Chalmers Pickemann and his friend George Ross. On Christmas Eve 1983 they rowed across the river to inspect the site. The land belonged to John Jameson - whiskey distillery - who used the site as a private golf course. The Scot Mungo Park - winner of The Open 1874 in Musselbrugh Old - made the first real hauls. Two years later it was the Scot Geroge Coburn who expanded the course to 18 holes.
WC Pickemann was the driving force and is essentially responsible for the entire success.
The third nine - the Yellow Course - was added in 1971, designed and built by the legendary Fred Hawtree with a whopping price tag of £3,500!!!
The only modifications necessary were on hole 6 with a new fairway!!!
Fred's son Martin modernized the Old 2003 for the Irish Open, primarily building new tees to stretch the course to 7,500 yards, resulting in an average length of 375 meters per hole.
For a links course, many fairways are flat, not so typical - this led to unusually long drives in tailwind - the opposite direction then made us land roughly...
Great course that has perfect maintenance and serves over 100 bunkers that literally collect lots of balls. We met a number of them in the green area - they play very well, but par is almost always gone!!!
You should also play the Yellow Course if you are not too tired, the wind saps your strength - physically and mentally - and also your nerves...
At the end we realized that we had drunk far too little due to the low temperatures, but that our bodies were still drained!!!
We men survived it, the ladies were in the clubhouse after 18 holes
It was a lot of fun playing here!!!
