Simply great
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed January 29, 2019
Amazing course. We played end of January this fantastic course. We hired 2 caddies and we didn‘t regret it. Very useful tips. The course was moderately challenging but difficult due to the strong wind which we experienced that day. The baboons didn‘t steal any balls :). The halfway house was good. Overall great and well maintained course with good service.

good classic stile golf, fair priced

it's a slightly hilly golf course allover in good shape, fair rated at 3,5*.
not too easy to play, because of trees, also in the fairways, water hazards, ravines and good, challenging greens. and it's allowed to walk. the facilities are modern and clean. good service at halfwayhouse and the 19th.

A must play Golf Course

This is probably my favourite golf course in The Garden Route. I played there quite a number of times in the first 3 months of 2017 and the course was in great condition. The fairways and greens were in excellent condition and nice and green most of the time despite the lack of rain. It is a very testing course and unlike many golf courses, is not invaded by fairway villas, instead it is nestled in a beautiful valley with trees, lakes and streams throughout.
There is an abundance of bird life including a large number of the Knysna Loerie and the wild life includes baboons and monkeys in large numbers.
The tees are not the best and would improve the golf course rating if improvements were made, also, although the bunkers are improving, additional development would also lead to this being one of the best courses in SA.

Very nice place

Course played on February 22nd, 2025 Very varied course, lots of ups and downs, but can still be managed on foot.
The condition of the fairways and greens was also very good.
Any time!

Very nice place

This course is beautifully embedded in a long valley and is very well maintained. The first nine are beautiful, the second a bit more exciting. I would love to come back.

The locals' place
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed March 18, 2024
The place is ok. Not quite as fancy as Goose Valley. No gate control. Apparently the place for the locals. Lots of tournaments and in the afternoon there were club events with braai. Seems to have a busy club life. You are constantly greeted.
Hilly but still easy to run with a bag.
Above all, you don't see much of the other tracks, unlike in Knysna's Local Club.
The 2.9 then become lonelier and you feel more in the “jungle”. We liked that. Every now and then a ball seller jumps out of the hedge. So I would stay close to the bag. I mean, on a par 3 at the back, we even hit balls over a few gravestones. Interesting.

Nice course no more
3.0 of 5 starsReviewed March 16, 2020
The beautifully laid out course with old trees is quite nice, but the maintenance of the tees, the fairways, etc. did not appeal to me.
If this course deserves 4 or 5 stars, you would have to rate Fancourt with 8 stars and this is not possible.
Greens were extremely slow towards the neighboring clubs.
As I said, a nice parkland course, but not more!

.. in the top 50

... in the ranking of the top 100 in South Africa, currently.
He has been at home here since the 1970s, his first - 9 holes - was misused, a housing estate looks at it today.
Today's course has very moderate crossings and is easy to play on foot. Ponds and running water accompany the holes and are often involved because the course was built in the Piesang valley.
Shortly before our first visit - in 2001 - they worked intensively, among other things all greens were rebuilt.
A good, very interesting, sometimes very exciting course that surprisingly knows hardly any fairway bunkers.
All par 3 are very good holes, in addition the parade holes 4,5, 15 and 16.
Very well maintained course, club house with a nice terrace, nice people.
The lot decided four or five four stars.

Very nice parkland course
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed January 7, 2019
Goods on 05.01.19 on this place, which lies in the nature reserve. Hell was going on that day. Lt. Statement of a German-speaking club member this is probably at this time of the year but always so, the place was extremely well attended. The place is relatively flat, with a few elevations, you can walk well with a trolley on foot. Wearing is not recommended, as the place is located in a basin and therefore the sun relentlessly burns down. But it is also possible to rent an e-cart or even a caddy who carries the bag.
It is a parkland course with div. Water hazards, partial narrow fairways and many doglegs. Unfortunately, there is no Birdiebook, you will be surprised by one or the other situation, because otherwise there are no Spielbahnhinweise. The wind also plays a not to be underestimated role, as he always changes direction. Us (Hcp 10/30) but the place has a lot of fun, even if the trappings is a bit poor.. no driving range (which is a few miles away separately), otherwise only a small putt and Chippingarea. The Halfwayhaus is set up very weak from the food, a restaurant is looking for in vain... would want to play the course but again and again and accordingly recommend. Greens are very well modeled and very fast, fairways in very good condition. Attention: The Semirough in front of the greens is treacherous, the balls hardly jump forward, are braked rather immediately. (Grass growth direction)

Plus and minus

Negatives:
Restaurant area, Halfway counter and toilets bit "grubby".
Little friendly reception in the pro shop.
The Bunker (the "sand" in it) are a joke.
Even before our visit, we were warned by a member of another club before allegedly thieving caddies in Plettenberg. Since this is completely uncharacteristic of the courses on the Garden Route, we have not been much on it. However, we the caddy master in Plett then itself also warned. In fact, we had caught two very lovely caddies.
Pros:
Fantastic golf course in perfect condition maintenance (excluding bunkers).
Easy to go, golferisch not abspruchslos.
The back nine are scenically even more beautiful than the first, here you have some feeling to walk through the rainforest.
The caddies have kept their distance for Rough, there should be many snakes. We have seen here but no.

Beautiful old parkland course
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed November 24, 2015
This place is played by many members and is beautifully nestled in a small valley near the center of Plettenberg overlooking the Beacon Iceland Hotel and surrounded by green hills. Old, nice trees, mostly flat fairways, a few with a slight slope. Relatively well maintained, beautiful and fast greens, varied fairways. Scenic idyllic location, a few Baboons were also there. No spectacular place, but quite recommendable and fun, good to walk with trolley or carry bag feasible.
