Because of it's location on the foothills 500 m above the bay of Funchal this golf course disposes of magnificent views on the capital, the sea and the surrounding mountains. The old woods with their partly rare and fine trees, as well as the lush vegetation are impessive. In correspondence with the terrain the species-rich and lush flora and fauna is a commemorable experience.

I almost didn't play the course but I am glad I did. Some fairways are recovering (you already see the grass) but that didn't matter. The course is well taken after and it is eco orientated as I was told. Played very well and had a great time.

Wonderful golf course

Like everything in life, it is always in the eye of the beholder and what one's expectations are. I wouldn't really consider myself a hacker (HCP 12.5) (but that's a matter of opinion). We really like both courses (Santo da Serra and Palheiro), especially when they are in such excellent condition as they are this year. You can see that it rained a lot in the winter and that there is a new manager who is bringing a breath of fresh air. Starting with the new carts, new balls for the DR (well, admittedly it's not really a driving range) and finally sand in the bunkers. As always, a very nice welcome from Gloria and her colleague. We "hackers" always enjoy coming here and enjoy our time to the fullest.

Landscape top but space tight mediocre

Anyone who just wants to enjoy the beautiful landscape is in good hands here. The quality of the course is, however, rather modest. Crooked, bumpy and badly mown tees, extremely confusing fairways and bunkers in which you sink hard because there is far too much sand in them, that doesn't really make playing that edifying. The real problem, however, is the challenging terrain, which the architect has not really got under control. If I land somewhere in the thick weeds on a perfect tee shot despite the optimal flight path, then something is wrong. It wasn't just me who did it, but all the flights that we observed. Of course, if I hack my way through the terrain in short sections, it doesn't really attract attention. As a former scratch golfer who has played a lot of good courses, I have different expectations, especially with the green fee that is charged here.
