If you don't like links courses, you should play the course too. I (Hcp 13.5) was able to play several pars from the yellow tees and the loss of three balls was not too great (rough does not automatically mean loss of ball). I would have loved to play some of the holes again because they were beautiful and could have been played more cleverly on the second attempt. Played on June 29th, 2024. The golf course with a slightly hilly 18-hole championship course and a 9-hole short course is located near the Baltic Sea (you can even see the Baltic Sea from some of the higher tees) between the popular holiday resorts of Heiligendamm and Kühlungsborn. You can enjoy the round in peace and nature, only the rattling and honking of "Molli" can sometimes be heard. The Wittenbeck hotel/resort is a good kilometer in front of/away from the golf course. There is no real clubhouse on the course, but "only" a bistro (with a small menu) in containers. The "simple" appearance is more than made up for by the very friendly and nice ladies in the bistro, which is also used as a counter. The course is the star and the design is special and challenging. Links style with lots of rough, water, up and down, undulating fairways partly divided by hedges, stones or water, blind shots, well-placed bunkers. If you get bored here, there is no help for you. The bunkers were made of fine white sand, the tees relatively unworn. Play was manageable on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Tee times can be reserved online via the website. However, we found out that there are also some players who start the round without a tee time. Despite this, we were able to start playing before our actual tee time and did not run out until the end and no one had to wait behind us. The green fee in the high season is now "only" €90 from Mon. to Sun. If you play after 4 p.m., you pay €60. A cart costs a reasonable €33 for 18 holes and is definitely recommended, as there are sometimes longer distances between tees. I can recommend a round in Wittenbeck without hesitation if you can do without the comfort of a clubhouse right on the course.
