"Le Touquet offers two totally different 18-hole course: ""La Mer"" is arranged between wild dunes and reminds a bit of a Scottish links course. In 1976 and 1977 the French Open took place here. The more contemplative alternative to it is ""La Forêt"", where the fairways take course under age-old stone pine groves. Sam Torrance holds the record on ""La Mer"" withe 63 drives."

Wild dune spot

Even though the sea is only visible from a viewpoint requiring a climb, this course (La Mer) is superbly integrated into the coastal dunes. The tees and greens were in excellent condition. The fairways were firm and covered with typical dune grass. Contact with the surrounding buildings is minimal. Unfortunately, the clubhouse is a good kilometer away, and you have to walk across the other course (Le Foret) to reach the first hole unless you want to leave your vehicle completely unattended at the course.

I simply can't understand how you can rate *le foret* with 5 stars...
80% of the courses are flat, obstacle-free and simply banal. The very wide paths are lined with the last remnants of the forest that once stood here.
Only holes 5,6, 8 and 13 offer something for the ambitious golfer - but not too much. Only track 16 is great, at the very end it gets brutally tight.
greens: good, although about half of them are flat. With the exception of two trees in the middle of the fairway, the large and deep sand bunkers (top sand) are the only obstacles.
Railway descriptions: totally non-existent... but it's less of a problem because you hardly lose track because it's so flat and wide. still it's missing.
green fee 90€ (on foot): simply too expensive for what is on offer. Luckily the place was good, otherwise it would have been tight even for 3 stars.
If you're really looking for a golf challenge in the area, you should book yourself in *La Mer*.

We played *LA MER* and you have to know that it's a 10 minute/1 km walk from the pro shop to tee 1. and from the 18 back also. so calculate the time.

It's available for €114 (on foot). what doesn't exist: no toilet (not even at halfway, which doesn't exist either), no water, no lane descriptions. if you don't know the place, you often play into the unknown. Even the tee box markings (white, yellow, etc.) are not visible from a medium distance.
with such, otherwise usual drum-rum (especially with the green fee), the place would certainly be worth 5*. so there's only 4*.
