An Overall Splendid Golfing Experience
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed June 17, 2013
Played June 12 2013 For:
• Heritage
• Helpful secretariat staff
• Birdie master ®course management guide
• Fabulous fairways & greens
• Intimidating bunkers; some deeper and larger that most residential swimming pools.
• Unforgiving roughs; I lost four balls! Not into the trees, just a few feet off the edge of the fairways. The ones I found didn't always come out to the fairway for one!!
Against:
• Archaic rental clubs
• Some not so friendly members
• No water Hazard, I like it when water's in play.
I will definitely recommend it.

In a very elegant setting golf here is civilized affair with distinct disclain for the ostentatius. Although there is a plesantly old-fashioned feel to the course, maintenance is definitely modern and probably the best in the region, I guess. This is my cup of tea where you have to bring all your shots and a few more.

TOP!
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed July 17, 2023
The range is now complete and exemplary with lots of target greens (except for drivers from long hitters). All in all, a water-free but very demanding, bunker-containing, extremely well-kept place, a feast for the eyes. Very nice reception, excellent gastronomy. what to say It doesn't get much better (apart from the sand in the bunkers after rain, there's a bit of clay in them)

Oasis of well-being
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed October 20, 2022
Here you can forget the world for a few hours. No Corona, no war, just enjoy the game, precisely because it's relatively expensive. A parkland course at its finest. Very well maintained, no water hazard, but sand bunkers on each lane, on the side and regularly various bunkers in front of the greens. The heather that often grows in front of the tee or in between has to be overcome with long and straight shots. Nice service in the club. The DR is currently being rebuilt, but it is already clear that it will also be great.

A beautiful parkland course on the Elbchaussee
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed August 12, 2022
There is nothing to complain about here with a beautiful landscape and lots of heathland. Very elitist, which is why we practically had the whole place to ourselves on Friday lunchtime. At first we were a little irritated by the lack of tee times, but that's real luxury. The condition was exceptionally good. We felt very comfortable

A classic - unfortunately with acute defects

Oh yeah - FALKENSTEIN!!!
A wonderful place, mostly located in the forest. Quite hilly and with a very varied layout! However, one thing is common to almost all railways - "STRAIGHT" is not only helpful, but also an essential prerequisite for getting through the round with a reasonably passable score. Tricky - despite the lack of any water hazards (there really is NOT A SINGLE) neither boring nor easy.
The absolute non-plus-ultra is, of course, the “divot return, pitch mark repair, bunker rake service”! The players don't have to worry about ANYTHING like that, everything is done by the service team, who busily do the rounds several times a day!
The condition is generally very good (lawn density, mowed edges, bunker sand, ...) - in particular the quality of the tees is convincing despite the shady forest location - many other clubs do not have that under control. Unfortunately, there is currently a lot of damage to the fairways by crows chopping larger holes in the playing field in search of fat maggots, larvae and similar culinary delicacies. The greens are not in top condition either - moderately undulating, moderately fast, but with a number of damaged areas.
Depending on the direction of the wind, you can sometimes hear the air traffic at the nearby airport (albeit at a higher altitude and therefore not particularly loud). Otherwise it is heavenly quiet!
If you mention the use of a cart because of the hillyness, be forewarned: There are no carts! Unfortunately, we were also unable to spontaneously rent an eTrolley - the ProShop was closed, so we would have had to pre-order such a device.
And now the very bitter disappointment...
The above-mentioned “divot replacement, pitch mark repair, bunker rake service” does not really exist (who would have thought that). However, a great many so-called "golfers" who were on the course in the hours and days before us seemed to believe it firmly. There is hardly any other explanation for the multitude of unrepaired pitch marks, divots not covered and unrilled bunkers! This is NOT included in the course rating - it is not the club's fault, there are plenty of signs ( "Please put back divots / repair pitch marks") on the site, but the hollow heads who do not can probably do that too do not read…
What you have to criticize the club for, however, is the price / performance ratio! If the space and infrastructure were in prime condition and unrestrictedly usable, the EUR 100 green fee would be steep, but still acceptable for THE space. On the Monday we played, however, the restrictions were simply "too much":
In addition to the maintenance deficiencies mentioned above, the greens were still so freshly aerated that perfect putting was NOT possible. The short game area was not usable at least immediately before our tee time due to extensive green keeping work, the infernal noise of the many machines in this area was still booming uncomfortably over the adjacent lanes. The ProShop was closed all day, as was the gastronomy. There could, no, SHOULD also or especially such a renowned club “get off the horse” and possibly not only think about a correspondingly reduced “Monday green fee” ... So the inclined guest player feels a little “ripped off”.
Conclusion: Despite deductions for the state of care and the aforementioned restrictions with the unbroken high price still just under 4 stars - for the sensationally beautiful landscape and the layout. (In the "Golf Bear Ranking": 7 out of 10 points.)

Very good under the circumstances - definitely worth a lap in winter too
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed December 31, 2020
Played this moderately difficult parkland course on December 31,2020 and found it to be a special “highlight” in comparison to the other events this year - from arrival to departure - despite the 'winter greens': courteous mail traffic, easy to find, nice and quiet but still conveniently located on the outskirts, nice and helpful reception, friendly audience, well-maintained, well-maintained tracks (handicap requirement of at least 36 authorized). Although mostly straight tracks, nevertheless interesting and beautiful "layout" such as the tracks 10,15,17; Amazing height differences in flat surroundings, appealing sanitary facilities and an overall positive ambience complete our consistently very positive impression.
As beautiful as the heathland may be in August, there are at least a few water hazards missing as well as information on the “next tee” for the GreenFee players. Overall, however, it is definitely one of the most beautiful and successful places in northern Germany. Playing golf is really fun here!
By the way: We liked the second 9 even better than the first 9 holes.

A pleasure!
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed September 14, 2020
The Falkenstein Golf Club in Hamburg is definitely one of the best golf courses in Germany and is a must play, especially when the heather is in bloom (early August to early September)!
Only rarely do you experience such a perfect embedding in nature and a modeling of the tracks using natural occurrences. The course manages completely without water hazards, but the heathland landscapes are style-defining and often determine the game. The hilly court layout, the well-placed bunkers, the undulating, fast and track-keeping greens and the heather areas make for a varied and strategic game. In particular, tracks 8,10,15 and 17 will be remembered for a long time.
The friendliness of the members and employees also contributes to the special atmosphere of this wonderful place.

Hamburger Edelplatz!
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed June 29, 2020
After many years I played the Falkenstein golf course on the way back from Sylt in Hamburg!
I can only say the Harry S. Colt course is even better than it was 10 years ago! The design is sensational and can compete with the English, Dutch and French Heidewald classics! Falkenstein is a dream, the condition was absolutely flawless and the greens were lightning fast...!
I played a day after Budersand / Sylt in Falkenstein and the Hamburg flagship club remains my number 1 in Germany! Ps .: Falkenstein is worth 100, - € green fee, that is "being with yourself" in Falkenstein history!
The reception was extremely lovely and hospitable! To all golfers, play Falkenstein, Heathland - Forest Juwel!!!

Almost too good to be true!

Golfrunde on 7.8.2017
A beautiful parkland complex, well-maintained with great slopes embedded in the hilly Heidelandschaft.
The greens are fast and tricky to play. Many well-placed bunkers. Also water, but particularly whole Heidelands, come into play at some holes.
Very hospitable and helpful members.
A stylish clubhouse with very friendly and on the contrary catering, which satisfies all culinary special wishes for the rounds as well as for the dinner.
There is a very nice sunny clubhouse terrace with a good view of a spacious putting area, behind it the discounts 1 & 10 and the greens of the 9 and the 18.
Conclusion: An outstanding place in a great environment and with a welcoming mixture of Hanseatic worldliness and stylish British noblesse.
Absolutely recommendable.

Great golf course in the middle of pine trees and heather
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed April 4, 2017
I played the end of March 2017 the square. The holes are varied and playful demanding. Fairway and greens were in good condition. The tracks are relatively wide and beautifully embedded in pine tree stands. The greens are protected by bunkers. No water hazards. The numerous pine trees and the heather give the place a special and pleasant atmosphere. The place does have elevation changes that I did not expect in Hamburg. Overall, I was able to play in peace 18 holes on a beautiful golf course. I really enjoyed the day.

Story
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed July 28, 2016
Forty years ago, I have drawn in the summer for 5 Mark old ladies pocket and fished expensive balls from the heath, and now I have played the course for the first time themselves. What a development, the place is ripe like a great Bordeaux, and the Secretariat has democratized. This is now only to the game, and that was in addition to the perfecting of the square, the greatest joy in this historical for me Thursday-morning in July 2016th

Good condition, but again not so great.
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed April 25, 2012
Honestly, I went with great expectations of Germany's No. 1 golf and was a little disappointed. Yes, the place is beautiful, the location quiet, amazing and care of the environment state (except for the greens on April 23,2012) well. But why this should be Germany's most beautiful place, is not really open up to me as "normal golfer." Possibly. acts of the court, when the heather blooms impressive. I personally (I have to admit, I'm not a fan Parkland) water hazards such as missing or doglegs. Most trains go straight, have some "deep" bunker and that was it. Even the most elevated tees and greens do not break out in my opinion. The place is way hillier than you might think, what sometimes requires one or the other blind blow. For HC the high court because of trees and the resulting occasional narrow lanes is certainly not suitable. As I said, the greens had some shortcomings, so the 80 was - to 60, - € reduced green fees reasonable. A special praise goes to the club secretary. The lady at the counter was very friendly and accommodating. The club house and the bathroom facilities are also unfortunately was not necessarily a guide to the most modern stand the restaurant. Otherwise there was no encounter with members, as well as the matches on Monday morning was very moderate. Who's there should themselves take a picture and play a round.

The Best
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed October 5, 2011
An oasis of tranquility in the midst of a big city, magnificent forests, interresting tracks, good to very good condition maintenance, service friendly and courteous, club-restaurant with good food, simply a class of its own;
Due to technical progress of the place in terms of its length reached the limits (haircuts with his back to the fence / wall to), but still a MUST!

Beautiful
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed October 2, 2011
No. 1 in Germany absolutely justified. Very neat place. All lanes located in the forest. High Points of greens and tees. Much heath, which makes some ball disappear.
Traditional club, very straightforward and very nice staff.
Great kitchen. Fresh produce and prepared tasty. Sure to drop.
