Nice golf in "America" around the eyrie

Played on 7/12/2021. The 18-hole course (PAR 70) with an attached 9-hole short course is located approx. 22 km behind the German border, approx. 8 km from the motorway, northwest of Venlo in a rural area and belongs to the village of "America". An excursion with a detour to Towerland amusement park nearby may be an option. Basically, the golf course is in a quiet area, only the federal road N277 can be heard on a few lanes. I don't know exactly what it used to be, but I suspect that the system was built around, next to and on top of a former garbage dump. You play a few lanes over an increase with veritable inclines (cart recommended for those who are not quite as sporty), where there are multiple blind strokes (directional pillars are on the lanes). It already starts at track 2. It goes up and down the hill several times. On the hill itself you can see funnels that protrude about 1 meter from the ground next to the tracks, hence my guess. At the top of the hill there is a publicly accessible lookout point with a tower. The metal "eyrie" was then probably installed on this tower. The tracks themselves are varied. Water comes into play again and again through two larger ponds and a few canals. Bunkers are not so much the defining element, but a lot of rough, a few higher trees and one or the other slight dogleg. In total, the course has 7x PAR 3,6x PAR 4 and 5x PAR 5, whereby the first three lanes are all PAR 5. Three of the PAR 3 lanes are interesting: The 4 goes from the tee over a lake to the green. With lanes 8 and 18 you have to hit very precisely in the direction of the green across a path, stream and a lot of bushes, there are few options. High HC, even though most tees are open, should still have a few more balls in the bag. The maintenance condition was mostly good on the fairways and the greens were in top order, often slightly undulating but always true. The game operation on a Monday afternoon was initially manageable. I had reserved a start time by e-mail and immediately received an answer confirming my preferred time. You can see the free and booked tee times on the homepage. When I arrived at the clubhouse (functional but perfectly fine) I was greeted very friendly by the lady at the counter. She explained a few special features to me and gave me a small discount because two fairways had just been aerated. The standard green fee of 45 €, also on weekends, can be described as cheap. The more players play in the same flight, the cheaper it is (up to € 30 pp in a four-person flight). On my back nine I got into an afterwork member tournament (was announced by the lady at the counter and was not a problem). As also announced, I was immediately let through as a single player. There is a double deck range. Balls for this can be drawn from the machine with euro coins. I can absolutely recommend a round at the Golf Horst in "America".

A nice round of golf

The hotel makes a good impression. Only the driving range was in a state worthy of improvement. Secretariat staff inside were very nice and helpful. Only the green fee (€ 43) seemed to be high in winter and partly sanded greens. The restaurant was very clean and the staff very friendly. We will come back.
