Rude and inadequate restaurant service: a day to forget
2.0 of 5 starsReviewed August 25, 2021
We are golfers for several years, and in the summer we always take a holiday in Tyrol to play on its beautiful courses. We knew and had already played several times in the past years at Golf Kitzbühel-Schwarzsee, in, Kitzbühel, so this year we booked again and went to the course with enthusiasm. The course was and is still very nice, but unfortunately this year we found a noticeable lowering in the level of service that ruined our day and that will probably not make us choose this course again in the future.
We had set the tee time at 12:30 (3 players) and, having nothing with us (food), we thought we could make a stop for a quick snack at the buvette between holes 9 and 10, , as we had always done in the past. Instead, to our surprise, the kiosk bar was closed, without anyone having warned us about it. When we saw the Marshall (hole 10) we asked him what happened, and he told us that during that week the person running it was on vacation. To object: but then, either they had to notify us at the desk, so that we could buy something at the restaurant before (of course at that point we could not go back), or they should have put another person to replace the service, or just have a buggy-bar going around the course with snacks and drinks, as it happens in other courses. The fact is, we had to wait to finish the 18 holes to get something to eat (since we were fasting from breakfast in the morning), or at least we though.
Other surprise: we then sat at the restaurant around 17:30 asking to eat (restaurant times indicated on the website 09: 00-22: 00) and the waitress, in a rather rude way, tells us that it is not possible. We saw that they were setting up a barbecue outside and offering the Grill from 6pm, but this does not justify refusing to serve three players who have just completed their 18-holes (and who had paid more than 300 euros in green fees and buggy)…. We ask if it was possible to have anything to eat, a snack, a toast or anything else, and we were told that we could only have a "Flammkuchen" (similar to pizza). We accepted that, since we were hungry, and ordered it with 3 beers... At 18:00, we had just finished eating and had still some beer to drink, the same girl, in a rather rude way, tell us that there were some people arrived who had booked “OUR” table and we had to get up. These same people, when hearing the waitress saying these unpleasant words, told us that it was absolutely not a problem and that they could sit at any other table (we were on the terrace, and the tables were almost all free). However, we felt somewhat offended by this extremely rude behaviour never encountered in any other restaurant, least of all in a golf-restaurant, where form also matters, and we immediately got up to pay and leave.
Since in our previous experiences the restaurant was quite something else, pleasant, with good service and excellent dishes, we felt obliged, before writing this review, to notify the secretariat of what had happened. The lady at the desk, though very kind, looked surprised and immediately called a blonde lady with typical Tyrolean trousers (the person in charge of the restaurant, perhaps?) who, however, just showing a very teasing and annoying smile, neither apologized nor justified in any way their behaviour, thus confirming their total lack of professionalism which unfortunately goes to the detriment of golf club itself. Unfortunately, probably because of the pandemic and all the problems it has brought to economic activities, many businesses have lost good employees and found themselves having service activities managed by people who are not up to par... Perhaps this is one of these cases. Etiquette is not only on the course …. Sad to say, this is how businesses ruin their reputation, and recovering may be hard and long.

Breathtaking... And not only for the views!

Is a very sportive golf course, with a lot of challenges. Have to be in a good shape to play... But overall, I am strongly recommend as a must, for a golfer whom is travelling around. Restaurant is a landmark, my opinion!

Fantastic panorama
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed September 5, 2024
We played the course at the beginning of September 2024 and were thrilled by the fantastic panorama - view as far as the "Wilder Kaiser". The golf course is in very good and well-maintained condition. The greens have just been aerated and sanded, which we were informed of when booking. The first 9 holes are flat and beautifully embedded in the landscape; the second 9 holes are hillier and have a wonderful view. Interesting course - we'll be happy to come back!

Top maintained and high quality
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed August 10, 2024
The first five holes are perfectly flat and quite short. After that, the course becomes more interesting. Even buyers with higher handicaps will get their money's worth here.😊
For averagely fit golfers, it is quite easy to run. Only the climb on hole 15 and then to the tee on hole 16 are challenging.
Two par 3 holes are played from top to bottom, which we really liked.
The panorama is priceless. 🏔️ The club restaurant is very pleasant. The pro shop is rather average.
The green fee of €115 seems a bit high, but we think it's reasonable. The price of €45 for a cart is less so.

Pity
3.0 of 5 starsReviewed June 29, 2022
The place is divided but well maintained in both parts. The only annoyance is the 18 fairway, which proves to be unplayable without course knowledge and in any case for a "good golf course" as unworthy.

Golf tour Tyrol
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed June 15, 2022
Were on our Golftour Tirol on the course, ambience and landscape were top, there is nothing to complain about on the course either.
The first 9 flat, the 2nd nine are more strenuous to walk. All in all, a nice golf afternoon for 18 holes, we needed a little more than 3 5 hours on foot.
Beautiful, well-kept showers which we were happy to enjoy after the game

Good to go
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed November 12, 2021
On the second 9 holes the course is a bit exhausting, but overall it is easy to walk. It is these holes that make the varied appeal.
Overall, spacious and well-kept complex with a beautiful clubhouse terrace. (The clubhouse gives a touch of the Kitzbühel celebrities) Nice views up to the Wilder Kaiser.
As already mentioned by previous reviewers, I also only give 5 * to perfect places in every respect.
But that's not enough here.
4 * means above average.

Mountain and valley
3.0 of 5 starsReviewed September 7, 2021
The reception was friendly. Unfortunately, no discount was granted either to senior citizens or to holders of a St. Johann guest card. The guest card says "kitzalps" and other golf clubs grant a discount on green fees of 97 euros, and not only in St. Johann.
The first nine holes are flat and nice to play thanks to a number of doglegs and water hazards. After hole 12 a mountain hike begins. It is better to take a cart. The fairways are sometimes very steep and the distances from the green to the next tee are long.
Both fairways, bunkers and greens are well maintained. In the restaurant, both the service was nice and the quality of the food was very good. Except for the first 9 holes, this course is rather difficult to play for beginners.
For me personally and my golf friends, the mountain hike of the second 9 holes was too much of a good thing.

..good, but not great...
3.0 of 5 starsReviewed August 26, 2021
We have known this course since 1992, when we played the first round. The range of places around Kitzbühel was not even half as large.
If you are ready to give a rating, it should be as objective as possible, correspond to what you have encountered and be as relevant as possible in comparison with other places.
We have all only been using the greens for four years, and the number of places we played was still manageable. Today it looks a lot different, everyone has well over 500 places on the list, the leader over 750.
This wealth of experience inevitably leads to a somewhat differentiated view, which has absolutely nothing to do with nagging, because the view, landscape and panorama alone are not enough - just like the staff and the marshall. These are all components of an evaluation, but not the central units.
In addition, we have never seen divots on the greens, but lots of unrepaired pitch marks - they are primarily a matter for the court users.
There are always four of us on golf excursions and trips, often six, and now and then even eight. We have put our experiences on paper in the form of notes since the beginning. This fact alone leads to a usable, reliable assessment. In the beginning we had grades from one to six - which was better - today it's a maximum of five stars.
To start with, we only give five stars to courses that are top in terms of location, layout, playful challenges, course maintenance and infrastructure. It is possible that a four-star facility will earn its fifth with excellent course maintenance.
This one is a good course, with some challenging and exciting holes - even some that are not that great - but none that we count among the best in the country and therefore not a five-star facility for us. The holes are on average less than 350 meters long, so they can be played almost loosely in good conditions.
The first nine holes are flat, the second new holes are physically athletic. It is a course with only a few fairway bunkers, but some greens are very well defended with them. The ditches that cross the fairways can cause ball losses, the right choice of clubs and a well hit ball are crucial. The greens were easy to play, a little slow. They're not that difficult either.
Course maintenance was mostly good, but not great.
We've played more than a dozen rounds here and dropped out of the list about 15 years ago due to a lot of competition.
Well, everything was not great during our visit, would it have been anything but normal with these weather events.
The lot had to decide, three or four stars. He has never received five stars from us, on any of our previous visits.

Always worth a round
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed August 4, 2021
Many people forget in their reviews that we had Corona lockdowns last year and many places were closed, so they could not be optimally maintained and it was also a long dry summer that began in spring 2020.
I played the course 14 days ago after 3 days of continuous rain in the most beautiful weather, everything was great, fairways full and great, greens very well.

Place okay, not greens
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed August 14, 2020
Played here for the last time in 2016 and unfortunately I have to repeat my criticism: The greens are the big drawback of this place - not mowed today, (right?), Extremely slow and many brown and bald spots. A place that is beautiful in itself loses its reputation.
The first 8 holes are beautiful but not outstanding, the 9 is the most beautiful hole for me. A par 3 over the water with a length of 168 m - exciting!
The second nine are much more hilly with beautiful fairways, knowledge of the course is more in demand here.

Evaluation of the place in connection with the evaluation of my "preliminary comments"
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed July 28, 2020
Now I can recommend this system lens at any time. A gigantic view of the wild emperor, an exceptionally nice reception, well-kept driving range (not everywhere), the front nine ok but then it's off to the mountains. Hammer tees and courses. A Marshal is constantly toured and inquires about well-being. Only the famous divots on the greens annoy, but they are caused by the guests and not by the greenkeeper. Smallest criticism: The girls on the terrace can invest a little more in attention and speed.
I have been playing here as a guest for years and cannot understand the "Nörgeler".
Just enjoy this great hobby and the fabulous landscape.

15 minutes wait for the Greenkeeper
2.0 of 5 starsReviewed September 26, 2019
We broke off on Sunday morning and looked forward to a nice final round of our golf week. On the 1 we had all four still a 100m blow to the green, from the green well visible for the working there Greenkeeper. It's not uncommon to be working on the pitch, but I know it so that the greenkeeper finishes his ride to the end, making room for a short time and letting the guests play through. After about 5 minutes I then went to the green to make him aware of us, because he may have overlooked us. I've never seen anything like this in the world, he did not even greet me, let alone looked at me, but pointed out to me with a wave of his hand that I should sneak in and continued driving his tracks on the green. Then I had to stop my teammates from being just as bold and simply playing the green.
After 14 minutes (we looked at the clock) he put the flag back in the hole and left, so we never had the opportunity to talk to him about it.
After that, everyone was grumpy and we could not really enjoy the round anymore, so I do not want to rate the place itself because the opinion would probably be biased. At the next golf week we will miss the place and prefer to play Zell am See, because we enjoyed it much better.
We tried to discuss the topic after the round with the club manager, but unfortunately she was busy with the Audi Cup. That's why the criticism must be made online, which is not my preferred way, but neither the Greenkeeper himself nor anybody from the club was available for a call.

Dear kempa!
Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry about your incident and we can assure you that we will discuss this internally. On the said day, it was indeed an exceptional situation, as we are in the preparations for our season highlight, the Audi quattro Cup World Final. Normally, our greens are always mown out of play. Of course, this does not excuse your inconvenience in any way and can already promise you improvement at this point.

Beautiful golf day in the Indian summer
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed September 4, 2019
Played on 4.9.19 in glorious weather. Welcome in the secretariat friendly. After driving on the good driving range, it started on the round. The tees, fairways, bunkers and greens were in very good condition, despite the previous rainy days plenty of sand.
The second 9 are very varied and really fun, the holes on the first 9 are very similar therefore only 4 stars. All in all, but still a great day of golf, we'll be back. Gastro very good, wonderful terrace, always a great view of the Wilder Kaiser!

Care condition of the place
3.0 of 5 starsReviewed August 27, 2019
Beautifully situated place overlooking the Wilder Kaiser.
Bunker in front of the greens as hard as concrete, new bunker sand piled up in the bunker and not distributed. Many greens in bad condition, divot marks not eliminated, thus brown spots on the greens.
Conclusion, a nice place with weaknesses and that for a high Greenfree price. Positive was the nice service in the restaurant.

Dear Suse212!
Thank you for your feedback. I like to record this and forward it to our Greenkeeper team immediately.
Due to the wet weather conditions, unfortunately, more and more space has shifted in the past few weeks in the seasons. This was also the case when filling the bunkers with new sand. We are very sorry that you were traveling in the exact time window on our system in which we have filled the new sand in the bunker and could not yet distribute with our sand pro's.
Many golfers consider our facility one of the most beautiful in the entire region and unfortunately sometimes leaves its mark in the form of unrepaired pitch marks and divots. But here, too, our five Marshalls react professionally and always point out friendly and friendly to the etiquette of the game of golf.
I can assure you that we will work on your suggestions and present our equipment on your next visit to the quality you expect.
Greetings from the golfing paradise of the Alps

Unfriendly restaurant chef
2.0 of 5 starsReviewed July 2, 2019
In a GC one expects certain manners, which are unknown to the restaurant chef.
The request to view the cake before an order, he met with a rude: This is only in a bakery.
Without explanation, a dinner was denied later. Apparently because of a society that had gathered there. It would have been quite simple but the appropriate reference.
The rating for the entire impression and the game of golf therefore deserves only 2 stars.

Big construction site on the railway 15
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed June 25, 2019
We played the beautiful course on June 25th. Unfortunately, we were surprised by a large construction site on the lane 15 (the second hardest hole). The green was surrounded by heavy construction machinery and strong earth movements were made, so it was locked. As a replacement, a hole was put on the fairway about 65 m before the green. It is always a pity that in the Secretariat no information about ongoing construction measures gets when you solve his green fee. I am not concerned about a reduction of the green fee. But you could just point out and maybe spend a small drink voucher for afterwards. That would be perfect service for me. It does not look like the construction site is quickly gone. Therefore, my recommendation to all who want to play the place completely, in the near future just when booking a tee time briefly ask if the construction is completed
Otherwise, the place is gigantic and just recommendable. Great area, very well maintained with very interesting trains with very friendly staff. We will play it again for sure, then certainly with a perfect full track 15.

To this end, we promise that we will better inform our guests in the future and kindly apologize for the inconvenience! The quality and satisfaction of our guests is our highest priority, so we decided to take the step to rebuild our Green 15. Due to the wet and cold month of May, we are unfortunately in a delay.

Beautiful place with a fantastic panorama
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed June 15, 2018
Today (15 June) the GC Schwarzsee in fantastic weather (finished) played. Very nice and motivated employees in the secretariat. The place in very good condition - despite the heavy rains two days before the place was again very good playable. The first twelve holes are flat and only from train 13 it goes uphill with some beautiful panoramic views of the Wilder Kaiser! From the yellow tees partly very narrow aisles! There is the driver is not always the right choice... Even marginalization and water come into play again and again! Partly heavily undulating greens, which were not too fast during our visit. A very good Gastro with a wonderful terrace overlooking green 8 and tee train 9 complete a beautiful (golf) day. Maybe not quite as spectacular as Eichenheim nevertheless a very nice place with good practice facilities. We love to come back when we are in the area again!

Attractive place
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed July 29, 2017
We took the place on 23.7.17. Beautiful clubhouse, friendly reception with a reminder of conversion measures, therefore reduced to 65, - Eur green fee. Tee-off 9.10 clock, no starter. Parkland course with some nested playgrounds on the first nine holes. Partially narrow playing tracks. Prolonged expences or water hazards, exact play required. Sanitary and halfway to train 9, Halfway did not open until 12.30 clock when we came back on train 18. That should go better! Coffee, sausage and fruit are sure to sell in the morning. Again and again water dispenser on the plant distributed. From train 11 onwards the rebuilding measures can be seen on the spot, all carts were already completely finished. From Bahn 13 it goes uphill up to Bahn 15, which is then also the steepest. Otherwise the place with trolley is easy to play. Tea boxes, fairways and greens were in very good condition. Overall, the place has a nice panorama, good gastro.
Proshop & driving range we did not use.
Our conclusion: Gladly again.

The place is very interssant and play for any handicap. The first nine holes are still very shallow and end with a great Par3 in front of the clubhouse, where you can watch from the terrace, from a deck chair, the successful or loose attempts of the approach.
The backnine already require a certain condition and go already high in the terrain. The 18th track ends in front of a fence!!! Which has to be transferred to reach the green. Not very spectacular. It gives a little impression of the place. Otherwise nice and helpful staff. Great views of the mountains. I will be back.

A very nice golf course with very manicured fairways. The first 9 holes are laid out and play properly nor even with a warped tee. The back nine pull then into the terrain. Are very interesting, especially the PAR 5, which in a wide arc moves upward. When the flag is positioned in the upper level, you should be there with the approach shot necessarily. putted too short then is equal to times a 4 putt on the scorecard.

For this money, there are better places, eg oak home. One can quickly lose your bearings, because the space in many places is not well signposted. Local rules we have not received one. On hole 18 must man play about a high fence on the green, because behind the fence, a bike path is located. All this without information, you have to inform on-site at the local players. Golf Reception very friendly! Very nice place, fairways in top condition, have 30% discount on green fees received because greens are not in top condition.
Railways partially not too wide, some tracks require well thought, tactical game by transverse water hazards.
The first 12 tracks flat, then it is partially correct hilly. The views from the tees but then compensate for the (hard) climbs. Lowland golfers without condition should better take a buggy.
