Golf de Touraine

Château de la Touche, F-37510 Ballan-Miré, France

Characteristics

Situated just minutes from Tours, the Golf de Touraine offers a distinguished golfing experience within the grounds of the Château de la Touche. Although the club dates back to 1911, the current 18-hole course was designed by Michael Fenn in 1973. It winds through a dense woodland estate, presenting a technical challenge where precision is favored over power due to narrow fairways and small, fast greens. A holder of the Silver Biodiversity label, the club maintains a respectful harmony with nature. The experience is completed by the "Le Pavillon" restaurant, where the terrace overlooks the 10th tee.

Superb golfing experience

What a great track this is. Exceptionally well maintained. Greens are true and quick. Fairways are exquisite. Bunkers in great condition. The layout is superb with no two holes the same. There are some great doglegs and challenging par 3s. There are some blind tee shots but the boards show the layout and yardages very clearly. Approaches to the greens can be a real challenge as can some tee shots... it's a wonderful golf course. Play it if you can.

A busy day in May

A very well maintained parkland course and excellent clubhouse, with extensive practice areas. As a result, it can be busy. The course offers lots of challenges but will favour those who can hit a straight drive 250yards on a regular basis. After the first 4 holes, which follow the hilly boundary of the course, the holes are laid out adjacent to each other and care needs to be taken of other golfers. This is especially true on the dog-leg 9th as players on the 10th tee walk down the 9th to the 10th green! In fact, despite the quality of the course, the layout was the biggest frustration as there are a number of blind shots and holes where you need to wait for the green to clear, all of which can lead to hold ups (we had 4 groups playing or waiting on the 15th!). Our 2-ball took 4.5 hours to play the course (normally 3.25 hours). Nevertheless, well worth an outing. Green fees on this visit were eur60.
