Golf in the hinterland of Biarritz

Played on September 20th, 2024. The 18-hole course is located about 10km south of Biarritz inland in absolute peace and nature. It is a slightly hilly terrain and the paths between the tees are sometimes a little longer, so a cart is recommended. The entire complex, including the holiday homes and apartments around the clubhouse, makes a good but rather rustic impression. The clubhouse with restaurant (not in use) is also modeled on a country house style, but offers everything golfers need, including a pro shop where you can also pay your green fee to the friendly staff. You can book a tee time online without paying immediately, which is rather unusual for the region. The green fee of €80 is reasonable and you get a discount as a couple. A cart costs €45. The tee times are displayed on a screen at the starter house in front of tee 1. The driving range goes downhill. Play on a sunny Friday afternoon in September was lively but not overcrowded. There were also a few individual players or flights of two. The speed of play was absolutely fine. The course offers everything you would expect as a golfer. Partly parkland and then open fairways. Some elevated tees and water hazards. Tees 10 and 17, each into the valley, are certainly a highlight. The PAR3s are not long, but they are challenging. To get to holes 13 to 15, you have to go under two streets through a tunnel. The path behind the second tunnel is lined with bamboo plants. Holes 13 to 15 are played around an old chateau. On hole 16, you play past a cemetery. The bunkers on the course are well placed and require strategic play. The condition of the course was fine, some of the tees were a bit worn or sanded. The greens were top notch and very fast. Unfortunately, there were no toilets on the course here either. All in all, a solid place with a relaxed atmosphere where there are fewer tourists.

Challenging but fair

Next to Golf de Chiberta, Golf D'Arcangues is a "must" for any golfer staying in the Biarritz region. Some very spectacular holes that require a precise game, especially when the course is played from the champion tees. Greens in very good condition, unfortunately the course can suffer from the lack of water in midsummer and is then a bit dry. Can be played on foot without any problems, but is exhausting because there is a lot of up and down. Prices are moderate and the staff is very friendly. Have fun.

Beautiful Place

The place was pretty marshy continuous rain in two days. Clearly, therefore, falls from an objective evaluation of the state space. But overall, wonderful views of the mountains. It was pretty up and down. But overall, great fun and highly recommended. The terrace at the end of the round is mandatory :-)
