2026 VHS taster course at the Papenburg Golf Club

For the past few years, since retiring, we've made it a point to try something new each year. This year it was golf. We didn't intend to compete in any championships, but discovering how complicated it is made it quite an experience.
The two professional instructors, Hendrik and Florian, accompanied us on the driving range, the putting green, and in the bunker. Thanks to their insightful guidance, we made progress, or at least managed to hit the balls (somewhat) high and (not very) far, or even occasionally into the hole on the green. Many thanks to both golf instructors.
Golf is not a sport where old people leisurely stroll around the course (or drive a golf cart). It is a physically demanding sport that only yields success after a great deal of training.
The lawns are impeccably maintained. This requires a great deal of effort. The special robotic lawnmowers can't manage everything on their own. These mowers, charged by solar power, have a special cutting method, hedgehog protection, and much more.
Only the old tractor that pulls the ball collection machine dates back to the last century. Its chimney still belches smoke, releasing blue fumes into the surrounding countryside.
Maintaining such a golf course landscape and perfectly organizing everything for so many amateur and tournament players is truly admirable. It's no wonder the course has received top awards and consistently ranks among the best in Germany and Europe!

The golf course has everything a player could want! Plenty of challenge and remarkable cleanliness! The greens are immaculately maintained and immediately invite you to play. I earned my handicap certificate with Hendrik Harms; he was always calm and patient! A coach you don't find every day. I highly recommend taking a refresher lesson or two with Hendrik, or simply working on improving your handicap! He immediately identifies where and how you can improve!

Exciting place

You don't really expect that much from a golf course on a very flat plain. We were all the more surprised to find an exciting layout with challenging holes here. A par 3 over more than 200 m for men and 180 m for women is quite unusual. Plus several tricky dog legs and overcoming obstacles. Amazingly well-tended greens in October 2021. A course that is worth playing. Really recommendable. In addition, the very friendly reception in the office and on the square itself. We'd love to come back.
