Great little course

Hard to play if you do not hit it straight. Lots of fun and great people at the club house. The views are out of this world. If you do not enjoy walking then this may not be for you. Give it a try!!!

Very interesting place

We played the course today and I was very surprised. It is a small club that runs this course with a lot of effort and passion. We were greeted very politely and friendly and were soon able to play the 9 holes.

The condition was absolutely fine. Tees and greens and landing zones were irrigated and very neat. Overall, the whole golf course was in a very well-kept and tidy condition.

Of course, the fairways are not watered in the height of summer, because as a small club we cannot afford it, but also because it will happen more and more often. There are also watering bans. This is also due to nature.

The condition of the place can be described as good.

The second nine holes are very exciting. You need stamina and skill to complete the castle tour. But to do everything. I have a handicap of 29.6 and still scored 41 net points. So everything is possible and exciting.

If there are people here like Fieger who complain about trees on a fairway, then they should be playing mini golf.

A course can be dry in summer. You just have to adapt your game. For good and experienced players and professionals, this is no problem.

As I said, I am anything but a good player but even for me the course was easy to play and successful.

I can only recommend the place.

Not standard but something special

The question that occurred to me as soon as I arrived was: why is no one here, why is no one playing? This question remained unanswered until after the round and I still don't understand why there is so little going on here.
The first nine holes are flat, not too long, relatively easy, a few doglegs make the front nine more interesting. The perfect course for beginners, less experienced or older players. A relaxed round is guaranteed. If you're not familiar with the back nine, you need to be careful not to feel under-challenged. From the 10th it all starts with steep inclines, slopes, blind play to the flag, very small greens (very typical for a course from the 60s). You need to play precisely and with a plan here, otherwise you'll lose more than just one ball. Situated in the landscape around the castle, the second nine is a treat for the eyes alone. Here you have to put the stress of the terrain aside and just enjoy it, and then the game will definitely be more relaxed.

Someone from Acker wrote here. My God, hardly any members, quite a few guests, which means money is tight and the course is in very good condition, despite the long dry spells which eventually cause the grass on the best fairways to disappear. (We had that everywhere two years ago). Watering is hardly possible or allowed these days, or you can't pay for it anymore. Everything on the whole course was perfectly mown. The greens and tees were all watered and green. The greens were relatively fast and in good condition. The bunkers were OK; we've seen much worse in recent weeks. And you can also play with the few trees on the fairways; we've had that a lot in recent weeks. You just have to play tactically and think before you hit the ball. These kinds of obstacles make at least the first nine holes more exciting and better.

A compliment to the club and the greenkeepers. And the restaurant is also worth recommending - friendly, inexpensive and even though we didn't eat there ourselves, the pizzas looked delicious.

A golf field

We played golf in Ansbach on August 8,2024.
The golf course was recommended to us because of the fantastic view of Colmberg Castle. The castle is truly impressive, but the golf course was more than poor. There was hardly any grass on the fairway, the greens were not well maintained, fruit trees on the fairway, so it was difficult to locate the golf balls! We (HCP 20.6 and 28.5) did not enjoy playing golf there and we will not be coming back.
One positive aspect is that you can also shower in the clubhouse, but you have to bring your own towel. We didn't eat or drink anything there, so we can't say anything about the food there.

Exciting place and great hospitality

We went to play in Ansbach today. The "lower" 9 holes are easy to manage in terms of running technique, as they are very flat. The "upper" nine are more strenuous, as they are a bit hilly and some of the fairways are not visible. It is definitely more fun the second time you play, as you then know how to play. Always a great view of the castle. The highlight for us from the start was the 19th hole at Sandro's. Great pizzas, very nice conversations, thank you for that!

Sporty, demanding and very beautiful

I've only played the castle round (tracks 10-18) and was not disappointed. Curious and challenging due to the hilly terrain and the resulting restricted view. The confusing track layout is certainly not a problem from the second lap. If you're looking for the tee on hole 14, you've played the hole on hole 16 like me on hole 13, don't fret, laugh. The 14 is then behind the 17, past the hole of the 13😅. The men's tees 16 and 18 were on a common tee area above the women's tees, on the left edge of lane 10. Fantastic landscape, the castle towers over the square, the reception was very friendly and uncomplicated. Gastronomy good with a terrace and a very nice view. I'll be happy to play here again when I'm in Franconia. Recommended!!!

A MUST for the curiosity album

The course has already been described to us as "golfing Gaul", but clearly surpassed all stories: a maximally… capricious golf course. A MUST if you want to find variety.
The Burgrunde high up with a great view... at least of the castle, if hardly ever on the (blind) lanes. The Altmühlrunde as logic training with directional confusion, including tee-off. So you stay awake, even if the tracks are unspectacular and herbaceous.
Where the lane inventors of the Burgrunde had once planned quite a lot with golfing aspects, their descendants wanted to show unity at the Altmühlrunde, and that they could manage this (un) planning in memory of their ancestors on the second nine. (Operator golf course planners in the region would easily have packed twice as much, without Olympic-level confusion about tee-offs: there is theoretically enough space.) What is actually absolutely acceptable are the practice opportunities, which are often neglected elsewhere. Easy parking. Restaurant unfortunately off-putting (garlic) smelly, experienced in the reception, so that we could not sit there; but this was possibly an exception.
Colmberg and its castle are really very beautiful and worth seeing. The parking spaces at the golf course are free of charge for motor homes. So it is meant seriously that you should see this: 4 excursion stars.

Burgundy good

Played in the first week of August! Can only rate the first 9 holes because we had to stop because of rain! Very friendly reception! I find the first 9 holes challenging and very interesting to play! But you should always look at the tee boards to know where to go! The state of care was good-cannot agree with the previous speaker! But can not be a must

A place with several faces

We played the course for the first and probably last time in August 2021.

In terms of landscape, the first 9 holes are a highlight, the second 9 holes are less so.

What both halves had in common was the extremely poor condition of the fairways - if you can call them that.

If a ball is lost that is dead straight and can no longer be found in the high fairway, that says it all. The fairways had meadow character. Clover and dandelion making the ball vanish made every other hit a real gamble.

We criticized this after the round and the only statement from the overwhelmed gentleman was: "We have problems with the rain!". OK - that may be, but if you then ask for € 80 green fee (VcG) per week, the price-performance ratio doesn't fit at all.

The fact that the cart was also technically not in order matched the overall impression (despite being street legal, the brakes did not work properly and the indicators and horn did not work either).

The overall condition of the place was a disaster, to say the least.

In this condition, only the view is recommended, which is certainly cheaper when visiting the castle.

Burgrunde challenging... Altmühltalrunde flop

In the summer of 2019 we played this course and were very surprised by the Burgrunde. This is very challenging and a real challenge for physical condition and play ability (unless you are single-digit). It is very hilly and the lanes partly from the tee only partially visible (there are directional markings). Exact and wide deductions are required if you want to bring a reasonably ordinary score in the clubhouse. Unfortunately, here too the fairways were about to turn brown and hard. The greens were largely maintained but also here were already partially brown spots and some were very many pitch marks available. The view, however, is magnificent and with the castle as an eye-catcher, this round has a special charm.
In contrast, the second 9 on the Altmühltalrunde. The fairways were unplayable because they were rock hard and had huge cracks (so many ball we had to "rescue" from these columns). In addition, the terrain is completely flat and there is hardly any vegetation (you have to admit that these tracks are still very young). This comes in playable fairways certainly weaker players very contrary, making this round is easy to classify. Unfortunately, during our visit to a decent game was out of the question, since, strictly speaking, no fairways were present and the ball jumped uncontrollably in all directions or disappeared in one of the large columns. Only the greens were in perfect condition and optimal to play. Whether at the future summers ever a decent game is possible remains questionable.
The food and service are good. The green fee was too high for the condition of the second 9.
Conclusion: The first 9 (Burgrunde) are worth a visit. The second 9 (Altmühltalrunde) probably only in the spring or in a rainy summer (but probably rarer).

One place - two faces

Have the place in early July 19 for the first time (after tel. Registration permission to early start at 6: 30h - as a new guest player without ID card or Greefee in the envelope to deposit - very accommodating, friendly Secretariat !!!) played and was of the conception of the Burgrund excited: the first 9 holes to play without knowledge of local how to unpack Christmas presents: exciting, surprising and very beautiful! The tracks are not long but often relatively narrow, barely visible (directional rods), with a slope in all directions, tricky tee positions (eg at tee 7, from the hill, you have the option of golfing on 3 different greens and 4 fairways succumb - a bold planning - Weidmanns Heil!) with small, undulating and well-maintained greens. Super views, loving planting and the castle complex to offer a grandiose ambience. Makes you feel right. The new 9 lanes (be careful when crossing the highway!) Are the vegetation still pretty bare, almost flat, relatively simple (except the 10) - hardly any bumps, obstacles and large greens (hardly breaks) - to play and provide the Chance to rebuild the score. Due to the, for the region quite usual, dryness, the fairways had 10-18 partly large cracks and sparse vegetation. It is questionable whether this half of the course can be sufficiently watered and maintained in the long run to be considered an enrichment of the plant. My conclusion: a course worth playing. What to miss hole10-18 make hole1-9 twice for bet.

Interesting place

I have played this course or the first 9 (the Burgrunde) at the end of this year's record summer, accordingly dry and brown was the floor (not to compare with the picture on this page). Because of the condition, the green fee for me was reduced to 15 €, which was very fair. Due to the dryness no ball stopped at the sloping fairways, and with blind (Ab) blows one had practically no chance to find out, where the ball had jumped / rolled. Therefore, I can not rate the place properly, but only confirm that the greens are small and oblique, but not so fast, so that the putting and chipping was not so difficult. I would also like to emphasize that the bunkers were well filled with soft sand, so that you could play out very nicely - not a matter of course, as the bunkers are often in poor condition even on much more expensive places.

All in all a nice club!

Burgrund top

In the morning the secretariat is not open. Greenfee for 9 holes with 25 euros favorable, walking the Burgrund played, with heat already strenuous but feasible. Wonderful views and tricky fairways, but not always foreseeable.
Place in good condition, at noon then the restaurant is open and offers fresh cuisine. The other part I did not play, which is more flat.

Exceptional at the castle hill

This place is a real mountain goats place on the slopes of Castle Colmberg. Even for us unusual from the Allgäu. The greens are small, almost all wrong and quite fast, to putt a real challenge here well. Many of the tees are elevated above the fairways and the balls seem ever to fly.
Very friendly reception in the clubhouse. The green fee of 40 € on weekends is low.

Undulating with blind holes

Beautifully landscaped 9-hole course situated. Because of the topography, however, several blind holes. Here, you actually do not know where to play. Easier it is therefore when a second Plays round and the place already knows something. Although we are well on foot, it makes sense to rent a cart, there are enormous differences in height to deal with.
Very friendly welcome and service in the restaurant. We played the course in September, the care was fine.
