Enjoyable holiday golf course
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed February 7, 2023
The El Gouna golf course is in excellent condition and well worth a visit. It has wide fairways but is far from easy. At 6,269 metres (6,856 yards) from the white tees, it is a challenge for any golfer especially when the wind blows - as it did on each of the three days we played. The greens were quick and true and the fairways were well watered and in very good condition. The rough is not long but the ball sits down deeply enough to provide a real challenge. There are lots of water hazards from the surrounding lagoons.
We bought a 3 day package that was worthwhile. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The range using ‘floater’ balls was fun and the other practice facilities good.
Enjoyed it all in the February Egyptian sunshine.

Windy, warm, but still beautiful
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed March 11, 2026
The previous assessment, in my opinion, is far too critical and exaggerated.
The bunkers were tough, that's true. The buggies and trolleys were getting old, but that was about it.
The fairways were constantly watered, albeit with a hose! The greens were fast and good. The holes are varied and beautifully designed. With a headwind, they can sometimes be quite long. The driving range is great for warming up; of course, the balls are a bit lighter, so the distances are shorter than usual.
The terrace of the clubhouse was great, the service was friendly.
We knew we would be playing golf in the desert and enjoyed every day.

Dear Mr. Rolwy,
Thank you very much for taking the time to share your thoughts about your recent golfing experience in El Gouna.
We truly appreciate your balanced and positive feedback. It is always rewarding for our team to hear that guests enjoyed the course layout, the fast greens, and the unique character of playing golf in a desert environment. As you mentioned, the combination of wind, course design, and firm playing surfaces can make each round both challenging and enjoyable.
We are also pleased to read that you appreciated the driving range for warming up, as well as the friendly service and the atmosphere on the clubhouse terrace. Our team works hard to create a welcoming and relaxed environment where golfers can enjoy their day both on and off the course.
Your understanding of the specific conditions required to maintain a golf course in a desert setting is especially appreciated. While we continuously work on upgrading equipment and facilities, it is wonderful to hear that the overall experience and the beauty of the course contributed to enjoyable rounds throughout your stay.
Thank you again for sharing your experience. We hope to welcome you back soon for many more memorable rounds in El Gouna.
Warm regards,
Golf Management Team

The green fee of €85 is absolutely not worth it!
3.0 of 5 starsReviewed March 5, 2026
To begin with, I spent 10 days at the Steigenberger El Gouna solely for golfing. The hotel and the courses in Egypt were recommended to me for winter training, so it was my first time there. Here's my objective review and what you get (or don't get) for €85 green fees – I'm simply comparing it to other countries or courses with similar green fees. I played El Gouna a total of six times.
Here are the negative points I noticed.
General information about the system/price:
Tee times must be booked well in advance, otherwise there is a risk of not getting a tee time. I booked 3 months in advance by email, and we encountered guests who had not booked anything in advance and were unable to play.
- Trolley for €9, the trolley was extremely old, partially broken and the handles have sharp edges.
- Cart for €30, no GPS, no water box, no towels, nothing; the vehicles are ancient, probably dating back to the site's founding, some are even rusty.
- Toilets and sanitary facilities are underground, sanitary facilities are on the grounds, especially poor for women, no soap, no paper, and no remedy even after numerous complaints.
- No water dispensers at the tees, so bring enough water with you.
- Driving range: you hit into the water with so-called floating balls; okay for warming up, but not for actual practice, as the distances are completely off.
- The ball machine is ancient; you have to force the chip in.
- The clubhouse was nothing special and partly dirty.
Comments on the golf course:
The place is in okay condition, but not perfect for the price and for the time of year (late February/early March).
- Irrigation is done manually during the day; the automatic system doesn't seem to be working. I didn't see it running at all during the day. Not even in the evenings or at night. I was staying directly opposite the tee box of the 17th, overlooking holes 15,16, and 17.
- Water hoses are partially lying on the fairway
- Many burn marks everywhere
- None of the bunkers are real bunkers; they're rock-hard and covered with sand and stones. Tip out and putt – anything else will just ruin your wedges.
- The greens are brutally fast, being rock-hard and unirrigated; balls don't stay put, high shots are almost impossible, and if they are, only with a lot of spin for the experienced player.
- The approach greens are extremely poorly mowed, Bermuda grass, extremely wavy and laid out like a net; putting is the trick here.
Tee times are every 10 minutes; checks are only made to ensure payment has been received, not when or how the tee shot is taken, thus ensuring an orderly game flow.
- Marshaller rarely drives around to keep the game running.
- Poorly organized mix of different handicap players, cart drivers and runners
- Many walkers and non-golfers cross the course; it's very annoying.
Conclusion: Is there anything positive?
Overall, it was a nice time, but absolutely not worth the money! For the same green fees, you can get much more in Turkey or Asia in general. Would I play there again? A definite NO!

Dear Mr. Gesaenger
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback following your recent visit to the golf facilities in El Gouna while staying at Steigenberger Golf Resort El Gouna. We always appreciate comments from golfers who travel internationally, and we value the opportunity to address some of the points you raised.
First, we are pleased that you chose to play the course six times during your stay. This in itself confirms that, despite some concerns, the course remained enjoyable enough for repeated rounds during your 10-day visit.
Regarding tee times, advance reservations during the winter season are strongly recommended as this is the peak golf period in El Gouna. Many guests travel specifically for winter golf training, and tee sheets can fill quickly. For this reason, we advise booking ahead, which you successfully did.
Concerning the practice facilities, the driving range uses floating balls due to the water-based range layout. This concept is common in several coastal and resort golf destinations and is primarily intended for warm-up rather than full distance calibration.
With regard to course conditions, maintaining a golf course in a desert climate is very different from courses in Europe, Turkey, or Asia. Irrigation, turf selection, and bunker composition must be adapted to the environment. While this may result in firmer playing conditions, many golfers actually appreciate the faster greens and firm surfaces as they create a more challenging and strategic style of play.
Your comments about carts, trolleys, and certain facilities have been noted. Equipment and infrastructure are continuously being upgraded as part of our long-term improvement plans, and guest feedback contributes to prioritizing these upgrades.
We would also like to clarify that the course is part of an open resort community in El Gouna, where pedestrian paths intersect certain areas of the landscape. While this is part of the destination’s design, safety and course etiquette are always monitored by our team.
Finally, comparisons with golf destinations such as Turkey or Asia are understandable; however, each destination offers a different style of golf experience. El Gouna is known for its unique desert-by-the-sea setting, technical course layout, and year-round playability, which many international golfers continue to appreciate.
We regret that certain elements did not fully meet your personal expectations, but we thank you for your feedback and for choosing to spend a significant part of your golf holiday with us.
Kind regards,
Golf Management team

Well maintained, long fairways
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed January 9, 2026
Almost all holes are long. With a higher handicap and shorter driving distance, it is correspondingly more difficult to score well.
The tracks are in excellent condition, but often not so well maintained next to them.
Paths alongside the fairways are also used for walking, which is irritating.

Well maintained community
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed November 29, 2025
A beautifully laid-out, level golf course surrounding an artificial lagoon, though unfortunately the individual holes don't offer any particular highlights. Hole 18 perhaps stands out somewhat; otherwise, one can mainly appreciate the course's excellent condition.
Walking on the fairways is like walking on a soft carpet, therefore there is little ball roll; bunkers are relatively hard but still reasonably playable.
The greens are boring in terms of their undulation, the putting green was superbly undulating, the green speed was good, unfortunately due to the type of grass, probably Bermuda grass, it wasn't particularly true to the road, or the green wasn't mowed on the day of the game.

A good round of golf in El Gouna
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed February 18, 2024
The course is in good condition. It's not that demanding but it's fun. The putting greens are not that fast but keep your track. The weather is very good for a round of golf. We took a buggy (30€) due to the sun. Short distances between tees. Golf house is good. The driving range is challenging! There are islands that you have to hit otherwise you'll end up in the water.

Second hand embarrassment
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed April 17, 2023
As a German here in el gouna, you can often only be ashamed of how some compatriots behave here.
With the carts through flower beds or down to the green (everything already seen) according to the motto I pay 85 euros green fee here because I can do what I want. The poor marshal is looking away so he won't be insulted.
Otherwise, the place is nice and a challenge with almost constant wind.
It's unbelievable how many are busy here on the pitch, our headgreenkeeper at duvenhof would be happy if he only had a third of it available.

Those who like it a little nostalgic will feel at home in the clubhouse, at the reception or in the changing rooms. Unexpectedly old fashioned for the modern El Gouna setup. Staff is rather uninterested. However, the course is very nicely laid out and in very good condition. Nice and relaxed to play. Demanding from white otherwise but rather easy play. Definitely recommended and worth a trip. With the Tuk Tuk you can explore the exciting resort for little money.

From friendly to cheeky
3.0 of 5 starsReviewed April 27, 2022
We played the course twice in April. The reception staff consisted of 3 people who couldn't have been more different. A friendly greeting by a young man was followed by a grim question from a never-smiling second gentleman about the reason for our visit, followed by a cheeky statement from the cashier that we would have to prove club membership and handicap if we only wanted to use the driving range... Well, at least the friendly bartender, nice pro and helpful caddies pulled it off. The green fee of 85, - is definitely too high. Although the place was in acceptable condition, with the exception of the beautiful view of the lagoon, it is rather boring in terms of the layout, many tracks are very similar. The sometimes violent wind takes some getting used to, but is part of it. Unfortunately, the clubhouse has no direct gastronomy. Overall I can't get more than 3 stars with the best will in the world.

Can't share the great reviews - what place did they play? Seldom played a more boring place - just straight out - well at least the condition was okay, even if it stinks like hell with treated water (where else in the desert should get other water from) - why, they have no irrigation on every fairway A greenkeeper with fire hose runs around all day to irrigate - you better not get a ball. The location right at the hotel was positive - a short shuttle (20m) by boat that worked

Good design, but...
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed January 24, 2020
We played the course 5 times in January 2020. Despite gusty wind conditions, almost every course can be played properly. The fairways in particular have a good width. Even the left and right waste areas allow warped balls to continue playing. Unfortunately, the greens weren't even mown the week we stayed. Due to the extremely slow-growing grass, they surprisingly remained on the roll sufficiently, but illegible, every chip or pitch bounce was not calculable, the bunkers in most cases were rock-hard.
Nevertheless, we had a lot of fun with the very good course design, the well-groomed system except for the greens and bunkers, and the option of training at up to 50 km / h even in wind.

Best kept place
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed February 8, 2018
One of the best maintained courses, which I played. The Green's keep the direction and have a good playable speed.
Fairways in very good condition, the only downer are the bunkers.
Due to the constantly refreshing wind, these are sometimes not playable because they are too hard.
Maybe not quite correct is the procedure at the start.
Here you have all freedoms (solo round, or start on the 10th, etc.) if you support the starter financially, otherwise he can wait up to 20 minutes and longer on the booked tee time (despite free space).
The cloudy but not the overall impression of the rest of the staff which are very helpful and not intrusive!

Top well-kept place in the high summer
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed August 5, 2017
Playing outside the season of November -pril can be very exciting. Temperatures around 40 °, tidy wind, as it is for me as a beginner (play now a year) but already quite sophisticated.
The complex makes a top well-kept impression, fast greens and well-kept fairways. The semi-rough is for me getting used to, the balls keeps it 'firm'. The bunkers are all bunk-dried, balls jump out in 50% of the cases after impact. And then lie in the semi-rough) - :.
In the heat, an e-cart is definitely recommended, because of the shadow it donates. The Greenkeepers are all friendly and let you play fast, so a place needs a lot of care in these climatic conditions.
The service is great, make up the e-cart, iced towels after the round, racket cleaning and storage of the equipment is top. Staff was very friendly, there were no complaints. Are apparently also almost the only players, on the round always alone.
Unfortunately, the service facilities closed in the summer, a chilled drink after the round would be nice, must be taken just in the hotel.
All in all, highly recommended!

Demanding place with small quirks
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed June 21, 2017
It is a challenging and exciting place, but can be played well by all Hdc.-classes. If at midday the wind refreshes, but it becomes a little more difficult.
The condition is appropriate according to climatic conditions. Whoever does not meet the fairway, plays fast in the "big bunker".
As already reported several times, the right bunkers are very "special". During our stay, you were completely plowed back in preparation for a tournament and were so deep that you were sunk in the sand. Unplayable (therefore partly declared as "soil in repair")! After the tournament they became hard as concrete. This is due to the fact that they are watered daily but are not sufficiently diluted.
It is also possible to improve the situation on the pitch all day. Although they are all nice, turn the machines off and go to the side, but disturbing it is nevertheless a little.
On the exercise area you can play well or exercise. Just the grass - feels like artificial grass / felt, but it is not - you have to get used to.
We were in the result but round about satisfied and come back guaranteed.

4.0 of 5 starsReviewed April 19, 2017
In my view, the number 3 of the three 18 hole courses near Hurghada. The tracks are not as exciting and maintenance condition was fine. Unfortunately, very strong wind has the game very difficult and plenty of Gone with some balls. It has yet fun and there were very few flights go. It was a very relaxed round and if you consider that water is very rare and precious / expensive, then it is also the green fee in order. A cart is not necessary here.

Beautiful surroundings mediocre place
3.0 of 5 starsReviewed March 27, 2017
Played in March 2017. The environment is beautiful, the clubhouse very cool and the weather was great. The course is very flat and a bit boring, the state was okay, the holes 1 to 9 have I liked most about 10 to 18 ok. Dangerous for the many people, the cross and walk across the square.
For a few laps on holiday but it was okay specially for golf come here clearly no. But we were at the Steigenberger well accommodated there was golf incidental.
A word to the conclusion that the Egyptians were extremely friendly people and very helpful. If one is not used to in Germany

Beautiful place, bad condition
2.0 of 5 starsReviewed February 22, 2017
Positive:
The course has made me as a 30-handicapper fun, the fairways are pretty wide and errant balls can be found almost always. The driving range is the hammer, the balls must be hit in the direction of water (there are now no more beach balls, but normal Rage balls) and there is joy when one succeeds to make an island.
Negative:
The site is unfortunately in a very precarious condition, the fairways consist really only of desiccated grass. Fertilizer and water has not seen the place for some time! Bunkers are rock hard and therefore not playable as a bunker. The Green very fast and with Suns scorched stains littered shame. The price of € 85.00 for 18 holes (from 14:00 € 55.00) is justified in any event.

It depends on the right...
3.0 of 5 starsReviewed February 13, 2017
The good news first: In Dec. 2016, the place was in a really good care condition. The lush fairways, the greens very fast and true - because there is nothing wrong.
For many golfers safely is also positive that the space is created rather generous and forgiving.
The practice facilities are ok, a nice gimmick is certainly the range from which the balls are hit into the water. However, the quality of the then floating balls is basically comparable with real balls.
The staff is friendly and there is a possibility of storing his bag.
What bothers me is that the place of the layout is pretty boring. There really is no hole in the memory, there is no single highlight, neither optical nor the claim here.
However, higher HCP should certainly going to enjoy the place.
A full disaster are the bunkers, there is neither SW is necessary because the sand is hardline - it did not work!
Conclusion: For serious golfers / low HCP too boring.
The green fee is far too high in my opinion - especially when one compares this with the better by a mile square in Soma Bay.
Pleasant was that the place was less crowded -.. certainly for currently a "Egyptian" problem.
Incidentally, it is well served as a golfer in El Gouna, if you live at the Steigenberger, because then you can also short time translating for a little exercise session by boat. Duration one minute walk for about 5 minutes.
Nice game!

5.0 of 5 starsReviewed April 17, 2016
The place is full of charm of channeled area of El Gouna. Best Hotel because right on the square and with shuttle service, the Steigenberger Golf Resort. Overall, the place was in a very good condition, especially the greens more than excellent. Not easy to play, partly water, very strategically placed bunkers and not so wide fairways require but straight punch. For high handicapper therefore not necessarily recommendable. We have mostly chosen the afternoon, because there the green fee with 55, - human and the place was accordingly empty (it is not too hot at that time, as always, a corresponding air went) So overall round and with good services at very good Price-performance ratio

4.0 of 5 starsReviewed December 15, 2015
Golf between and lagoons: the course offers beautiful views and is surrounded by architecturally well-designed bungalows. Many bunkers and water complicate the game. You have been playing straight. The first 9 holes are much easier than the back nine. Hole 14 with 401 m (yellow) as a par 4 and par 5 lanes are very long.
The course was in good condition; the greens are very fast. The signs can be further improved.
The staff is friendly. And as always, on the Red Sea: guaranteed sun!

4.0 of 5 starsReviewed March 7, 2013
We played the square end of February 2013, and we liked it very well. Upon arrival we were greeted very dear and put our bags in reception. We solved the green fee (75, - €) and took our cart in reception. The tee time we have booked through our hotel the night before and get the required start time in the morning. The place was almost fully booked, so early booking is certainly not a mistake. The square was laid out in a very good condition and well maintained and very pretty. He runs around `s Steigenberger Hotel between and above the lagoons. It is no exaggeration difficult, but it can still be tricky in the wind. The marshaler was always present and has seen that the flow of the game was einghalten what struck us was very pleasant.
Certainly very nice is also the driving range, as you tee off here into the water in the lagoon.
The staff were all very friendly, helpful and tip was not expected, but we have been very happy for the good service.
All in all a very good place to be can recommend and we will definitely play again.

I played the course in Nov. 2008 5 times in 1 week and was there every day with a lot of joy on the way. Although the place has me painfully learned, that can be devilishly sometimes far more helpful and not necessarily straight, but new experiences's part of it. In any case, I was after 1 wk a perfect "out of the sand players." The place is actually not too hard when you beautifully straight plays, fitted beautifully landscaped (lagoon) and I can not even complain about the staff. Friendly people in all places. Well, and the prices are ok and not too high, especially if one knows the rip on some Turkish and Spanish courses.
So golfers, ride times back to El Gouna Egypt, will make you fun and always stay fair.

Every year in mid-December, we fly for a week Steigenberger El Gouna and play appropriate for all levels always well maintained course.
As a Package Hotel + green fee prices are very favorable.
All staff, whether or Hotel Golf Club is very friendly, lives on the tip (at the very low wages in Egypt) and we will do a euro for the starter or the nice guys who clean our clubs and keep not hurt.
The golf club is for those whose English is not so good, spoken German. Start times should already make possible when booking. This can be done easily by e-mail or telephone.
We replace now no more money, but take on roles pieces with a € for the tips and also like to replace then back to tickets before our departure.
Worth mentioning is the good food at the Steigenberger that an Austrian chef (hard to see at the breakfast buffet).
The rotisserie on the golf course, HP guests every evening a 4-course menu, the Steigenberger a great motto Varied buffet.

Great and spacious place with a beautiful panorama.
To play almost all the time on the artificial lagoon along.
The place is relatively hard to play by the water or the many sand. Once the fairway is not hit the ball is in the sand.
The place has a great clubhouse in the evening the beautiful sunset can be enjoyed from lying.
Very friendly staff.
