Nice course

With few nice seaviews. Good maintained. Only what could be better is clubhouse.

Nice course, but needs some maintenance

Played 07/09/2017 starting at 09:40. I gave it four stars because it's got potential, but was probably more 3 stars when we played, due to poor maintenance. Facilities are about as basic as possible, small clubhouse with pro shop and a small bar/cafe. There are toilets at the 9th and 14th, but no other facilities of any kind (other than ball washers). Staff very nice, the pro shop clerk volunteered that the greens were not in good condition and gave us a bit of a discount. Greens were in fact in pretty bad shape, with lots of bald patches and ran pretty slow (where there was grass). Fairways and roughs had been mowed but the cuttings left, leaving large clumps of cut grass to add to the 'interest', particularly in the roughs. Both fairways and greens were soft, so there's very little runout on any shot, and balls landed on the green rarely move more than a foot from where they landed.

The course design is very nice, with lots of variation between holes and some good interesting challenges, without being so difficult that only a single digit handicap player can enjoy (we're 22 & 26 hcp). It's definitely a mountain course, with elevation changes, sloping fairways, and great views.

The ruins from the financial crisis surround the upper elevation holes, with swaths of unfinished condo complexes lining the fairways. Makes things a bit more interesting, in a dark sort of way...

Better than his reputation

After torrential rain in the preceding days, we played parts of the course on January 5th, 2026. The course was officially closed. Since a voucher or rescheduling (the course fee had already been paid) wasn't an option for us due to our return flight, they allowed us to play holes 1 and 2, as well as 12 through 18, twice. Aside from the fact that the bunkers were completely washed out and unplayable, and large sections of the fairways were very wet, the course was playable. The greens, in particular, were in surprisingly good condition – no puddles or anything like that.

The "clubhouse" including toilets in a container is a temporary solution; but perfectly fine. There is currently a construction boom on the Costa del Sol, so it can be assumed that the hotel ruin will also be completed at some point.

The staff were very friendly and solution-oriented. The (white) buggy was perfectly fine, and the toilets on the grounds (behind hole 15) were also okay.

We found the layout of the holes we played to be varied and fair. Perhaps not quite on par with its neighbor La Duquesa, but still good. The condition of the course – as far as could be judged after the storms – was, in our opinion, good.

Practice facilities are not currently available. A buggy is mandatory; it's also advisable due to the topography. The site is generally well booked. The discounted GF packages are clearly proving popular.

Once the hotel is completed, the course layout will certainly be changed. The clubhouse, changing rooms, practice facilities, etc., will then presumably be appropriately sized.

We were pleasantly surprised by the many negative reviews. Anyone who isn't deterred by the mentioned limitations can enjoy a round of golf here with panoramic sea views.
