Still to kneel down
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed September 28, 2024
Anyone who has not had the chance to play the course in their golfing life has missed something big. Played the course for the second time at the beginning of September 24. In sunshine and with little wind. I played the course five years ago. It was another highlight in my golfing life. Even though the prices are now almost indecently high, Cruden Bay is expensive but still good value for money compared to the major courses. The tee boxes are in great condition, just like our greens. Views of the sea, some of them from 50m high dunes. Wow. The course has been more or less unchanged since 1889. There have been only a few changes. A bit of a gem in the spruced-up world of golf. If you are in the area, you should play it. Old links course at its finest.

Classic
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed September 3, 2024
The par 70 course offers everything a links classic can offer.
Great design, incredible panoramic views of the sea and the beach, excellent fairways and difficult if you miss the fairway.
Perfectly maintained, pot bunkers to cry on if you're lying on the edge but otherwise playable. Greens well undulated but could be a bit faster.
Very undulating fairways, a typical, awesome links course that we were able to play in perfect weather.

Wonderful links course
4.0 of 5 starsReviewed August 2, 2024
Played mid-June 2024, HCP 16
A links course straight out of a golf enthusiast's picture book! Hard, undulating fairways that still deserve the name ( "fair"), DEEP but playable pot bunkers and always great views of the sea - simply great!
Before you start your round, you can stock up on any tees you might be missing at the large starter's hut and enjoy the great photos and golf memorabilia (antique clubs, etc.). The starter then gives you some useful tips about the course and then sends you on your round. That's something...
As is typical for links golf, there are also some dunes that have to be overcome with blind shots - but this is also very fair, the fairways continue where you expect them to (even without knowing the course). The danger to flights ahead is minimized by traffic lights that only turn green when the players ahead are out of range.
Apart from the mostly strong coastal wind, it is wonderfully quiet - no traffic from nearby roads, airplanes or anything similar to disturb your concentration.
The game is not easy though - the greens are also quite challenging. Sometimes relatively small/narrow and therefore difficult to hit, sometimes quite expansive and correspondingly tricky to putt. Like the whole course - very varied!
However, you will look in vain for water hazards - you don't really miss them, the other challenges are enough to ensure that you don't get bored on the course.
As expected, the condition is tip-top!
A cart is not needed – it would be stupid anyway, because there isn’t one!
Conclusion: With a green fee of just over EUR 200, it's certainly not a bargain (although there was a mini bottle of whisky as a tea gift at the start) - but it's worth every cent! A full 4 stars - definitely play (again)! (In the "Golf Bear Ranking": 8 out of 10 points.)

What a place
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed September 19, 2018
Played on 14.9.18. Much wind, hardly any rain and also sun. The place is an absolute must when in the area. Links Course at its finest with spectacular views. I'll definitely play the course again.
Also for the Greene of 110 bp the place is worth every penny.

The place is a "cracker"
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed June 14, 2018
To hole 7, it is relatively leisurely. Then the explosion, sheer insanity, as far as space architecture and views are concerned. One of the most beautiful places we have ever played. Also from the front desk over the pro shop to the starter and the beer afterwards: Absolute top class!

Everything perfect - great fairways, faithful greens, pointed views, classy clubhouse. We will be back! For 110 pounds a good value for money.
PS Absolutely no handkerchief or broken tea on the court... 4 Greenkeepers are in the run-up and collect any garbage. Wow.
