Characteristics
Clovelly ranks as one of the finest courses in the Cape Peninsula. Famous for its rolling, computer-irrigated fairways and undulating holes, Clovelly complements its rich coastal environment. Natural sand dunes abut the course, which is blessed with water features and a wide variety of indigenous fauna - especially birdlife such as guinea fowl, pheasant, peacock and steppe buzzard - and flora, notably the variety of trees which line the fairways. Unlike some other local courses, there is no noise intrusion from roads or railways, and both course and club house enjoy privacy and security. Clovelly's championship-quality greens (bent grass/poa annua mix) are among the finest in South Africa.

If I were only supposed to rate the golf course here, then 5 stars would definitely be appropriate. Everything was very clean, well maintained and really nice to play with. If you wanted to complain about something, it might be about the lack of signage on the holes, where you only find the number and whether it is a par 3,4 or 5. If you don't have local knowledge, you have to rely on your eyes. But that in itself would not be a reason for a devaluation.
Now why the 2 stars. For about a month now, the club has had a list of about 12 South African clubs that are not recognized as “affiliated” in the prices. They simply charge the higher price without mentioning it on the homepage or during the booking process (a few emails back and forth). We were very disappointed that no accommodation was shown here at all. All compromise proposals were rejected. Eat or die. I had also ordered a rental set with graphite shafts for the day. I got iron shafts. The service wasn't even 2 stars for me.
