Old Petty

Contrary to what the name suggests, Old Petty only opened in 2026. Although the course isn't directly on the coast for most of its length, it offers a pure links feel. The course is in top condition, and you won't find a single scrap of paper or broken tees off the fairways. The greenkeepers do a fantastic job. Thank you.
Playing this course is a dream. The wind is a constant, challenging companion. Green fee: steep.

EUR 249 green fee per person for non-Scots and no option to cancel if the weather is really bad are actually a deterrent. But once you've made your decision, you'll be rewarded all round.
The reception is already very friendly and the clubhouse is impressive, at least for men. Women tend to be disadvantaged in the changing room, while the men's changing room is almost reminiscent of an English club ;-)
Ball pyramids are available on the range. If you want to practice in the Short Game Area, you are not allowed to carry the balls there yourself, this will of course be done for the golfers.
The putting green is huge and somewhat reflects the challenges ahead. The starter is of course Scottish-friendly and also flexible. And then comes the place!!!
You start on the beach in one direction and after 3 holes you change to the next, higher level and then work your way back up to the clubhouse and after 9 holes you descend again and start in the other direction. The fairways are links-like, but wide fairways make the game easier, and the real challenges come in and around the greens. The condition is perfect everywhere, the tracks are ideally integrated into the landscape and you have the feeling that you are relatively alone on a fully booked course.
You can enjoy the space with a push trolley (included) or rent an electric trolley. Carts would be available, but are frowned upon. Caddies are also available with prior notification.
The service in the clubhouse is friendly, the drinks are good.
Conclusion: very expensive, but if, like us, you can enjoy 25°C and sun (and even without wind; yes, we were in SCOTLAND), everything is there for a really perfect day of golf! Better to do without another course, but definitely play Castle Stuart if you're around!
