Played recently with friends snd played earlier in the year Demanding front 9 as very difficult Back 9 easier and more enjoyable in my opinion clubhouse all good friendly staff greens and the edges are excellent and better than most Value good course overall

Front 9 is extremely tight and even good tee shots get punished wit the slope of the fairways, back 9 opens up a bit, however the greens are very good.

So, the region's newest course in Estepona belongs to the Azata Group - a large Spanish real estate company that seems to have understood how to sell luxury apartments with the right greenery around them. A golf course is of course the ideal advertising platform. That's all it is! Easy peasy golf without spectacle. Simple courses without steep ups and downs. You can walk it easily and don't necessarily need a buggy, as long as you are healthy, fit and cheerful.
On the Azata fairways, a lot of effort has obviously been put into the drainage systems - or rather, not enough. Because in some places the ground is very muddy. At least, you have to give them credit for this, there is plenty of grass. A luxury that the neighboring Estepona Golf cannot always offer.
Holes 1 and 5 offer a bit of action with their water hazards, but to be honest, the drama is limited. What really makes an impression, however, is the damage caused by wild boars, which shows that nature has no respect for our golfing world. The pigs are not to blame - after all, the course was once their living room. Electric fences may help, but of course the ball collectors have to get through somewhere. It's a never-ending back and forth.
The fairways themselves are nice and wide and quite forgiving - perfect for golfers or anyone who wants to play their round in a relaxed manner without constantly finding themselves in the rough or bunkers...

My previous reviewers mostly agree: the first 9 holes are narrow, difficult, slanted, almost mean. From hole 10 onwards everything is better.
Well, I see it a little differently:
Of course, the first 9 holes are a challenge. Narrow and slanted is certainly true. But every single hole is constructed fairly and can be easily played with the appropriate precision. A great thing!
However, we didn't like the second nine holes (Hcp 9 and 12) at all. Yes, they are wider - but that doesn't make them better. The arrangement of holes 10-12 is just stupid. First you walk past tee 11 to play 10 far down. And after the 11th green you scramble up again to play on the 12th tee (which, it should be noted, is almost next to the 10th tee). With the cart this may be less of a problem, okay. On this occasion: We walked with e-trolleys - it's doable, but still quite tiring.
And then hole 12, a par 4: From "yellow" I had the choice between a tee shot carried 220 meters over the water or a tee shot (150 meters). I chose the second option and (after perfect presentation) still had around 215 meters to the green for the second shot. Sorry, GIR almost impossible even for a very good golfer. In my opinion, holes 13-18 also took some getting used to. Either short and easy or far too long (or steep uphill). Intelligent space design looks different.
What was very ok, however, was the condition of the place. Of course the place was quite dry after a hot summer. But the closer to the green, the better the fairways became. And the greens themselves were perfect. That surprised us positively.
The clubhouse with pro shop and restaurant is now fully built, functional and well furnished. Everything OK. The staff was also very friendly. And the price was absolutely ok at 55 euros (including the buggy, which we didn't need).
Another comment about the women's tees: As is so often the case, the blue tees are usually just a few meters longer than the red ones, but rarely on the original tee. That's a shame and just annoying for the few women who would like to tee off from blue.

Azata Golf is a beautiful, new course with very demanding first 9 holes, because it is very narrow and heavily sloping. The greens are in great condition and very fast.
The staff is very friendly and helpful.

The birdie books are not yet ready and the hole descriptions on the tees are limited to the specification of par and length, which is not quite sufficient because at least on the front nine almost every hole is blind. In return, the fairways always hang solidly exactly in the drive landing zone. So everything is very special. Oh yes: it has BERMUDAgrass, so don't complain about blonde fairways in winter! Big differences in height, partly long connecting routes - I was happy to have rented a buggy. Incidentally, 18 holes + buggy for € 60, which is very cheap here. Overall, a difficult course with narrow fairways and very undulating, very fast greens. The whole thing reminded me a lot of Calanova at Mijas, a good offer as long as the prices stay that way. Oh yes: there is now a brand new clubhouse with a small shop and a fairly simple bar and a terrace, which was out of the question today because of wind force 6. You can play with pleasure but long detours are not worthwhile for this place.

The brand new AZATA golf course was opened in July 2020 and has absolutely grown to the surrounding well-known golf greats. Playful, very sporty, ambitious, with wonderful ravines and rivers crisscrossed. The bridge at hole 3, a par 4, with the beautiful backdrop of the Sierra Bermeja is worth seeing.
