It's worth a detour; you could make a lot of it

August 2025: A very friendly welcome from the receptionists. The course is in acceptable, average condition—in our opinion, completely normal, even during the hot summer months.
Beautiful views of the wonderful Altmühl Valley. Slopes, inclines, and gradients, yes. A layout that is unfortunately not well thought out, with so many opportunities for adjustment and modification. The course could offer considerably more if desired; it could be designed with considerably more refinement. It should also be possible to "catch the ball" on the slopes, even if it's through a bunker. One shortcoming: far too few doglegs, while the distances from the green to the next tee are (too) long – these could have been made closer together, thus creating more play (through doglegs).
The members were extremely friendly and helpful. They were also open to the fact that "Next Tee" signs are needed when you're walking away from the green, not only after you've already found your way to the next tee. The exit to hole 9 is also unmarked, so you could walk around forever... oh well.
The "penalty fee" for us VcG members (handicap 15.0 and 23) is simply snobby and not worthy of the otherwise casual setting. The restaurant was open (presumably for self-service), but we didn't use it. All in all, it's worth a visit, if only for the beautiful Altmühl Valley.

Not a bad course in itself, a bit hilly and definitely has its own peculiarities. The clubhouse is OK, in my opinion it is sufficient for what it is supposed to be. The secretariat was already fairly rated in a previous review, I agree with that.
Now we come to the big negative point, which in my opinion led to this rating. Currently in calendar week 25, the course is in a really bad condition. The greens have lots of worn spots and don't look particularly well maintained. The roughs are sometimes shin-high and in some cases even hip-high. This means that the ball can't be found as soon as it's not in the fairway. Now we come to the fairways, in some places almost entire flowerbeds are blooming, especially on number 1. You can't see your ball on the fairway from the tee because of all the white flowers and white mushrooms. I would even go so far as to say that the name fairway is no longer appropriate. I don't know what the problem is, maybe they need more staff or simply better machines.
I think the machines are broken, but from the looks of things they've probably been broken for a while and the golf course just needs a replacement. So that's not an excuse for me.
I would recommend the Ingolstädter Platz in the area, it is a bit more expensive but the golf experience there is definitely worth the extra cost.

First of all, please allow us to point out that in all our publications we speak of natural fairways, which means that we avoid the use of herbicides, etc., far more than is legally permitted. We also try to embody the harmony of golf and nature on our golf course.
Unfortunately, in some areas, particularly on holes 1 and 2, we have a large population of white clover (not flowerbeds!). This can, naturally, only be controlled to a limited extent by mowing. However, we are already working on solving this small problem. Our greens are also somewhat heavily used. We have also worked successfully on this and have already largely found a solution.
Our fairways (fairways and semi-roughs) are at least 60 m wide and max. 2 to 10 cm high. With a strategy appropriate to your own playing ability, you can play them excellently and successfully. But even the author of these lines does not always succeed. In addition, we have recommended three tees (yellow, red and green) for men and women on each fairway. This means that you will find optimal conditions depending on your own playing ability, provided you correctly assess your own possibilities here too.
The roughs they designate are natural areas for biodiversity on our course and provide a visual enrichment in every respect. Regardless of this, these areas are all marked with red pegs. So if the ball goes astray, a penalty stroke applies and the fun continues.
You are wrong about the faulty mower. We have several machines and mow many times a week and continuously. Nevertheless, with this year's weather, it is not always possible to do everything perfectly and immediately. We ourselves regret this the most, but we are delighted with the beautiful vegetation.
Unfortunately, you have not mentioned the excellent conditions we have here, namely being able to play a nice, stress-free round of golf at any time and at a reasonable price, without a tee time or pressure.
