Golf at Alhama

There have been some negative reviews on this Golf Club so i thought to offer a diffent perspective.
The staff at the club were really polite and helpful, particularly in the office and pro shop, couldnt be more helpful.
The course is going through change management, it was closed for two years after COVID and so ir is currently not at its best. However the greens were imaculate, as were the tee boxes. Playing prefered lies works well during this transition.
I believe the potential is great and could be a gem in a year or two.

Horrible golf course. Deserves to close.

Played here on May 14,2023. They went through some hard times, but they now have a new owner. The new owner must not have any money either. This place has 'broke' written all over it. One previous review before COVID stated the player "lost his will to live" halfway through the round. That, in my opinion, was kind of him. It's a crime for this dog track to stay open in its condition. Where to begin? The so-called club house is at best a tin shack. The carts are well past their prime. More on that later. The person at the counter advised us that while it was OK to drive in the fairways, to please not drive in the 'mood' (mud). Allegedly it rained the day before. The range balls appeared to be relics from an archaeological dig. Many were permanently discolored and on too many of them the dimples were worn down about 50% of their depth. The greens and tees were green in color. The tees were fine, but the greens were bumpy and slow. Moreover, the cups looked like they were cut a week earlier. 2-foot putts were a crapshoot to keep on line. Every single bunker was washed out and played as ground under repair. The Bermuda grass fairways were dead. It's a real challenge to kill Bermuda but they managed to do it. We struggled to play preferred lies on the nearly-bare dirt. This place is a joke at best. To top off a horrible experience, my cart died on the 10th hole. Miraculously, they found and delivered a 'fresh' one. Jack Nicklaus designed it, and it could've been something. He should ask to have his name removed from this dump. It's horrible and it deserves to die a painful death. Please avoid this place at all costs! It is literally the worst golf course I've played in decades. They ruined a nice goat farm when they built this wreck of a place. Never again!!

Dissapointing

We played January by beautiful weather, 57 Euro GF with winter special.
Fairway were completely white grass, greens were tinted with green spray, so tee off areas. Optic of golf course was weird. I had in mind the pics what I saw before booking holiday in murcia. Lots of bunkers with nice sand. Wsste sreas without sand or any kind of Greenkeeper attention.
For a Nicklaus Course, unbelievable.
It's far away and the trip not worth.

Good field

Field that has gone through a delicate situation after the covid, last year we were there, and the truth is it needed a push, but recently we have returned and it has improved a lot. It is a course that at first glance may seem easy, but it is not that easy, it continually challenges you, and combines its numerous bunkers with undulating fairways, and strategically located greens so that you have to make every effort to achieve a good result. The environment, staff, and other conditions, magnificent, are undoubtedly improving, and we will return more often.

Can you give yourself...

Golf Nuts really speaks to my heart with its clear rating from 2023. This course is not worth a kilometer of travel.

I got used to the barracks as a pro shop and caddy master in Spain. That's never great, but it's not always bad either. Here you are happy if you can get outside again as quickly as possible.

While we're on the subject of the barracks: The restaurant has similar accommodations, but is much friendlier. And the service (both the young gentleman and the blonde lady) was really great.

About the place:
- Tees and greens are nice and green, I can't say whether it's real or sprayed on.
- The tees were well leveled - so much for the good. After that it gets pretty special.
- The fairways only consisted of small dents. The ball almost always landed in such a depression, so I had to place it better each time.
- The bermuda grass was brownish due to the season - that's ok. But will it really be resurrected in the summer? I'm not sure about this.
- The greens played well and were reasonably stable.
- The design of the place in combination with the condition is really bad. At first glance the fairways look quite wide. Because the balls bounce in any direction due to the dents and there are lots of bunkers, some water hazards and countless bushes, the random principle applies. That doesn't really make the game interesting.
- There weren't exactly the greatest golf talents on our game day. Even though the place wasn't nearly full, there was soon a traffic jam.

So after nine holes we ended the disaster and turned to hole 19.

There are some better courses in the wider area that I will play again in the future.

Sophisticated

That the place of Jack Nicolaus was designed as a championship course, you notice him in many places very clearly. A huge amount of especially huge bunkers on the fairways as well as in defense of the greens are not for everyone. The true charms of the place can be worked out only with repeated play.
For the dryness (no rain in 8 weeks), the fairways were good to play. Tees and greens were properly watered.
The edge development is far from finished and will not be completed soon in the remote area. The place will not bother, as it represents a closed unit.
Secretariat and catering were very friendly. The structures are relatively simple. But the burger tasted excellent after the round.

Remote but great

Unfortunately this place is farthest away from the Mar Menor but it is worth the trip, it is about 60 km to drive.

But as compensation you get a top well-kept place with great holes that are suitable for each game strength and promise a wonderful day of golf.
We like to take the trip in purchase for a relaxed round with many charms to enjoy.

Sophisticated but beautiful place!

The place in Alhama is designed very interesting and sophisticated. Water and bunkers do not make life easy, but without a challenge it would be boring. The place itself was in good condition, but there are better kept greens. The resort seems very deserted, but that's basically the golf course nothing. The landscape around it is nothing special compared to El Valle. The Proshop has a small stop-off possibility, which we did not use. Staff was nice too.
You can take the approach in order to play there.

A top position, necessarily play when you're in the area!

Played in February 2017th

The place is quite remote and the arrival but definitely worth it. The fairways are wide and always offer strategic considerations.
The place is defended by many bunkers and some water, so by fast and undulating greens.

Need not be

Very difficult to gambling place with many vulgarities. Fairways without grass growth (end of March?), But extremely hard. To 18:00 the 19th hole closed up!

Away from civilization...

Good golf course. Away from civilization. here years ago, a huge area has been built, but obviously totally on demand over. But since we are come here to play golf, we are interested primarily the place. Width, maintained with bunkers studded fairways. The in this season "sleeping" Bermuda grass you have to like, that you have very little under the ball. The undulating greens are directional stability and our opinion not quite as extreme bunkers defended as the other "irm-places". Water comes into play as good as not. Friendly welcome.

Top!

I do not know where the "prescribing" were. The place is sown with Bermuda grass, sleeping well known in winter. You have to accept that if you want to play in the winter summer golf. Otherwise: A super well-kept place, wonderful design, great greens. A week earlier they had been sanded, therefore it demanded only 30Euro GF. The clubhouse is a container temporary, but they have a nice terrace and good coffee. Who is in the same area Unconditional recommendation! Oh yes: We are with 7 man here, HC 14-24, the given here opinion is unanimous.

Not so well maintained

We played the course in September 2015, and he has our least favorite of the J. Nicklaus courses.
The course itself is very sophisticated and has an infinite number of bunkers and desert zones. Unfortunately, the care to be desired. One of the two lakes had dried up almost entirely to, and all around is not appealing. The place is the middle of nowhere, surrounded by a shabby apartment complex with about a thousand apartments, almost all uninhabited.
As already mentioned, there is not even a clubhouse but only a container with cheapest tube chairs.
Is a pity, because the place itself is really worth playing.

You do not have (more)

Played in December. Was not able to this undoubtedly very sporty station, the ride there, we have for the first time to save us. At that time, by far the worst maintained course of Nicklaus courses. Almost all the white and yellow haircuts at the same time sanded, the bunker poorly maintained, only the greens were in good, very fast state. The fairways rock hard. The rest dormant Bermudagrass (normal at the time) that they are trying to green with too much winter grass of the worst kind. Mowing has set, you can find his ball is this straw nearly unplayable.
Clubhouse container, the rest of the plant in the middle of nowhere.

Desert sand bunker price

Spectacular course with bunker landscapes which (unfortunately) does not exist in our land!
Unfortunately weakens the Spain Square crisis! Nicklaus has given his best, whether the high standard can be maintained (or regained), is open!
My opinion nevertheless necessarily play!

Because of one of the most beautiful...

Have played on 11.2.2013. A tragedy-unfortunately-
Not because we were so bad, although the strong wind has done everything to distort-no-where our playground was in poor condition. The long ponds in part only puddle or completely empty and the constant smell of sewage was really unpleasant. We know the place for a long time but it was never that bad.

Amazing!

Is one of the most athletic courts located in the area in the mountains. Great discounts on ravines. Lages worth a 180m par 3 (of white) over a ditch with required 170m carry. Last hole of a white 550m par 5, a real experience.

Bunker as far as the eye can see!

Were playing on this course in March 2011. The place is reminiscent of a links course. Very hilly, lots of bunkers and lots of wind. Was a challange that was fun. The greens were great (in the design) and the fairways were Top.
Unfortunately, you can give the environment!
