Vila Sol is situated in the middle of Vilamoura and Quinta do Lago and is a masterpiece of a Portuguese golf course. Charly 44 described it well. We felt the same way.
However, despite the truly excellent conditions, the unbearable "behavior" of the British players—ranging from blaring music from a buggy and playing in party mode, to consistently unrepaired pitch marks and divots, and litter left everywhere—devastated the playing experience. This had absolutely nothing to do with the "spirit of golf" or even etiquette; it was more like the footballers and cricketeers (it was a competition) had wandered into Portugal instead of a party resort. It was truly repulsive. A club with such a rich tradition shouldn't tolerate this and should take decisive action with more marshals (we didn't see any)!

The Algaebe golf boom made it necessary to expand Vila Sol by 9 holes in the early 2000s.
The old course 1-18 is top notch and doesn't need to hide behind the big Algarve courses, on the contrary! Holes 18-27 are a bit bland and a little boring for my taste.
So always focus on holes 1-18…:-) !
