Great first place
5.0 of 5 starsReviewed August 12, 2022
The first impression of the place, always starting at the parking lot, was "Well, we just booked online". There is ample parking and the clubhouse is quite small and unassuming. People are very nice and helpful. The greenkeepers work very conscientiously and the green of the 18 ends right at the clubhouse, next to the spacious terrace. The golf office is like one of the tables in the restaurant, with a laptop on it. The pro shop is unfortunately closed and only a small corner in the restaurant.
The driving range is played with our own balls, as there are only three boxes where I hit a net from mats, but it's enough to warm up. The practice area is very manageable, but also very well maintained.
The round also starts on the terrace and the fairways are green and playable, even with the drought of the last few weeks. Unfortunately, it is not like us that there are railway boards, so not all courses of the railways are immediately recognizable, but the course is still easy to do and the railways are very interesting. Certainly sometimes a medium challenge for beginners, but still fair. There are only a few par 5 holes for men, but because of the fast greens and the unusual rolling behavior of the balls, a par 4 tends to be a bogey hole, although it is not really long.
The greens are mostly very undulating and it takes some time to get used to it, no matter how long we practiced on the putting green. It's a parkland course so there are some trees and some tight landing zones depending on how long or short the player hits. Some holes have noticeable height differences and not every green surface can be seen, there are also a few hills that like to influence the game and that's how it should be, the architect certainly thought.
Luckily it was rarely windy, so we were able to play in a relaxed manner and looking for the balls was manageable. But there are also a few places where nobody has to look, since the chances of success are slim. The place should be able to be created in 3 hours 20 minutes and we were exactly on time (flight of 3 with a beginner).
The bunkers on the course are mostly doable, in front of the green of the 18 there is a deep ditch, half of which is also a bunker (about 4 meters deep), which can also be played over, otherwise you are welcome to play in it and see what happens goes ;-)
After the round in the gastro, please without golf shoes, a large selection of drinks and a menu for golfers (which we wanted to have) offered something for everyone. The food came quickly and was very good, good value and we were all full. The usual logo ball was sadly only sold in a pack of 3 but ok. The usual birdie book is in the process of being revised as last year's storm knocked down some trees and the course is being re-rated.
We would play the course again at any time and therefore we wish everyone "A nice game".
