Metaponto isn't an excitingly designed course, but it's perfectly adequate for a relaxed holiday round. I played it at the beginning of January, so in the absolute off-season, yet the condition was good. There was a bit too much weed for my liking where the semi-rough should be (the manager apologetically called it "arugula"—large leaves under which a ball tends to hide). The tee boxes were good, there were almost no bare patches on the fairways, and the greens, due to the time of year, were a bit slow but extremely true.
In addition, at this time the orange trees are laden with almost ripe fruit, which brightens up the otherwise rather boring surroundings, mostly citrus monocultures.
The courteous reception was also extremely positive.
